From local Late Latin villa Brandilani, from an improper genitive form of the personal name Brandila,[1] from a Suevic and Gothic personal name, from Proto-Germanic *Brandilô,[2] from *brandaz (“flame; sword”) and the diminutive personal suffix *-ilan-.[3]
