[edit]Phono-semantic compound (形聲/形声, OC *praː) : semantic 疒 + phonetic 巴 (OC *praː).
Etymology
[edit]Possibly from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *baːr (“bloom, flower”), as scars could be seen as "flowery" outgrowths on skin. See 葩 (OC *pʰraː, “flower”) for more (STEDT).
