[edit]Proposed to be derived from Proto-Yoruboid *ɔ̀-sã́, possibly from ọ̀- (“nominalizing prefix”) + sán (“to shine powerfully, to strike, to be powerful”). Cognate with Igala ọ̀rọ́ka, Itsekiri ọ̀sọ́n.
