Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *baźʰúṣ, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *bʰaȷ́ʰúš, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰn̥ǵʰús (“thick”), from *bʰenǵʰ- (“thick”). Cognate with Ancient Greek παχύς (pakhús, “thick, large”).[1]
