Etymology
[edit]Probably related to गुरु (guru), as well as to Tocharian B śarwarñe (“arrogance”) and Sogdian [script needed] (ywr'k, “arrogant”). The root गर्व् (garv, “to be or become proud or haughty”) is perhaps a denominal form of the word.
