[edit]Borrowed from Old Ruthenian жо́втый (žóvtyj), from Old East Slavic жолтꙑи (žoltyi). Kucura form inherited from Old Slovak žoltý, both ultimately from Proto-Slavic *žьltъ. Cognates include Carpathian Rusyn жо́втый (žóvtŷj), Slovak žltý, dialectal Slovak žovtý and Ukrainian жовтий (žovtyj).
