[edit]From Proto-Polynesian *kutu (compare with Maori kutu, Hawaiian ʻuku), from Proto-Oceanic *kutu (compare with Fijian kutu), from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *kutu (compare with Malay kutu, Tagalog kuto), from Proto-Austronesian *kuCu.[1]
