A tag has been placed on Carrick Hey Robertson requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. JetBlast (talk) 09:56, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

William Shilling ‎

I tagged your article for WP:Notability. I see that you have said that Mr. Shilling is notable and provided his occupation, but there's no information to state why the person is notable. Do you have more information that you could provide that would help the reader understand the contributions made by William Shilling? Otherwise, it's likely to be tagged for proposed deletion.--CaroleHenson (talk) 03:11, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

I'm not sure if you are interested in this, but what do you think of an article for a Kingitanga State in addition to the existing Maori King Movement article?

See talk pages:

I am wondering if there should be a new article created for the state or confederacy ruled over by the Maori monarchs of the Kingitanga and allied chiefs. It seems like from the time the confederacy was formed in around 1858 until 1881, when the Kingitanga Movement began leaving aside isolation and finally made peace with and opened up to the settler government, the Kingitanga functioned as an independent state.

From what I understand, the Kingitanga held power over a substantial portion of North Island, originally centered in the Waikato Region. Then the settler government under Governor Grey interpreted their existence as a threat to British sovereignty and justified attacking them and initiating the Land Wars in the Waikato based on a claim that Ngati Maniapoto warriors helping other tribes fighting settlers in Taranaki Region were Kingitanga agents. After brutal fighting, the Kingitanga government occupied Ngati Maniapoto territory and became a neutral player throughout the rest of the Land Wars although remained independent from and at war with the Colonial Government until they opened what had by then been regarded as "King Country" in 1881. Afterwards, they progressively integrated with the rest of New Zealand over several decades, beginning with rail projects several years after peace was established although the Tainui chiefs and Maori king directly ruled the territory and didn't suffer land confiscations and settlement quite on par with other regions which allowed for a higher-than-average Maori population to exist there even to the present day. Unfortunately, not all of this is in the Kingitanga Movement article, and I'm not sure if it would be best for some parts of this to be applied there or if the Kingitanga should actually have its own state article for the period between 1858 and at least 1881 or 1894 (the year when the second Maori King, Tāwhiao, died) in addition to the existing article on the Maori King Movement.

Based on this background, do you think it is reasonable to create a new article for a state with this information included or that it should be included only here in the Maori King Movement article or both or neither?Nanib (talk) 00:06, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

The following are relevant articles on nzhistory.net.nz, a New Zealand government history resource (that you likely already know of) that is a wealth of information for New Zealand and even other Polynesian histories, which I believe would be helpful to consider:

NZ Corrections Department

Hi Stuart, I'm quite new to wikipedia and still getting my head around the editing process. You just removed hours and hours of work without advising me of your concerns. It strikes me as both offensive and ridiculous to revert to a previous page status which is clearly guilty of POV. Most of the information that is now on the page comes from the Corrections Department website which is totally inaccurate.

If you choose particular edits I make and challenge me on an edit you have concerns about, I'm happy to examine them individually. Would it not be more sensible to have this discussion on the talk page of the Corrections Dept website where anyone can see it and comment?Offender9000 (talk) 21:44, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

I think you'll find that I didn't do the reversion. I just left a note on your talk page advising you of some policies you may want to read up on. Stuartyeates (talk) 21:50, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

Who did the reversion - I struggle to understand the editing thing.Offender9000 (talk) 23:11, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

Help:Page_history talks about how to access that information. Stuartyeates (talk) 00:03, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi. In your recent article edits, you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

New Zealand women

I notice you have been adding a significant number of articles to Category:New Zealand women. This is a misuse of the category; if you visit the category page, you will see that it clearly states:

This category exists only as a container category for other categories of women. Articles on individual women should not be added directly to this category, but may be added to an appropriate sub-category if it exists.

While I'm on the subject, some other points to be aware of:

  1. It is not appropriate to begin an article by describing the subject as "a notable X". Their notability goes without saying – if they weren't notable, they wouldn't belong in the encyclopedia – and saying it anyway comes across as an attempt to peacock the subject.
  2. If an article is tagged with a more specific category, such as Category:New Zealand singers, Category:New Zealand people is redundant and should not be included.

Yes I have been creating stubs for everyone listed in the DNZB who doesn't already have a page. I discussed adding the gender-based categories at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_New_Zealand#Wikipedia:WikiProject_Missing_encyclopedic_articles.2FNZ.2FDictionary_of_New_Zealand_Biography before doing this and no-one mentioned the issue (as you will see I've already adapted to the feedback). My main motivation was to counter-balance the loss of several indexes to women's encyclopedia entries that appear not to be making the transition from print to digital. I will admit that some of the categories are redundant; programmatically working out which are redundant is non-trivial. Also many of the categories, especially for iwi, I'm having to create as I go.
