Welcome to DB1729's talk page. I will generally respond here to comments that are posted here, rather than replying via your talk page (or the article's talk page, if you are writing to me here about an article), so you may want to watch this page until you are responded to, or let me know where specifically you'd prefer the reply. I will try to WP:PING you as well. Conversely if you are replying to something I've said on another talk page, reply there and include {{ping|DB1729}} to alert me. |

Hi, please advise how i update actors from hitchin. Thankyou— Preceding unsigned comment added by Andy afc123 (talk • contribs) 23:33, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Andy afc123: Hi and welcome to my talk page. After I reverted your edit, I did provide the instructions on your talk page at User talk:Andy afc123#Categories. Have you read that? If not, I recommend doing so now. Basically you need to edit the article, not the category page, and add the category link there. In this case, there appears to be no Wikipedia article for either name you've added: See Elodie Williams and Elodie Lucia Williams. So there is no article to categorize and therefore what you are trying to do is currently impossible. Sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear, but I hope this helps in your understanding of the situation. DB1729talk 23:57, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
Patrolling Vital articles
[edit]Since you now know the existence of WP:Vital articles (yay) and has a lot of patrolling experience, would you mind monitoring vandalism and doing gnome stuff at these vital articles? Unlike a lot of other maintenance list/backlogs, the Vital list is used by almost no one, yet maintaining this Vital list should be of utmost importance due to their inherent, well, vitalness :) CactiStaccingCrane 15:44, 30 January 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for adding categories to templates
[edit]I see you adding categories to uncategorized templates, which is great. If it helps, I have been updating a sorted, one-page version of the uncategorized template report at User:Jonesey95/sandbox3. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:21, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Jonesey. Your list does look like it would be easier to work from:) Btw, I do have a couple questions:
- Is there a good rule-of-thumb on when to add Template:Collapsible option. I currently add it if the
|state=
parameter is used or if the navbox is fairly large, but I've not been consistent with this approach. Does it matter either way that much? - Is it necessary to create a doc subpage for templates that look like Template:Boyd family for example? It has Template:Documentation instructing to "Add categories to the /doc subpage", but there is no doc subpage. I don't know what to put in a doc page (other than the categories) if I created one. Usually I just do nothing and move on when confronted with this. --DB1729talk 17:47, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
- I've never seen guidance on adding Template:Collapsible option. I think it adds almost no value, especially given the amount of noise it makes. This opinion could be wrong.
- I have created /doc pages for navboxes and had their content moved back to the navbox page by editors who see no value in a separate /doc page with minimal content. Despite the guidance (not a guideline) at Wikipedia:Template documentation, I think that a navbox with no documentation is probably fine (there are thousands of them), so just adding a category inside
<noinclude>...</noinclude>
tags, like this, seems reasonable to me. – Jonesey95 (talk) 21:55, 2 February 2023 (UTC)- Thank you! You have been extremely helpful! DB1729talk 22:30, 2 February 2023 (UTC)

[edit]In the Defunct manufacturing companies based in Tennessee talk page you said "It still doesn't belong in this category though because it apparently is still in business. The category is "Defunct manufacturing companies based in Tennessee", not "Manufacturing companies formerly based in Tennessee". [edit]Please stop moving coords to the bottom of the page. - @Beyond My Ken: When the coods are the top they cause the mouse-over preview function to fail. --DB1729talk 23:12, 21 June 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, DB1729,
Do you have any idea what Category:Krypton boys in Amazonia refers to? Or is it just nonsense? Thanks for any clue you can provide. Liz Read! Talk! 23:17, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Liz: Pretty sure it's just nonsense and probably can be deleted. Not sure if they're related, but a few weeks ago I started noticing newly created accounts creating strangely titled categories. They were all circularly categorized to themselves. There were about 10 or 12 and I watchlisted most of them. A bunch got deleted fairly quick and I nominated a couple for speedy myself, then I forgot about it. Today I saw someone removed the circular cat from one of the last two remaining and then you nommed it for deletion, so I just went ahead and did the same thing for this – the last one I know of.
- Hope I've been of some help. --DB1729talk 02:36, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
- Another one here recently created and now nommed for speedy delete. --DB1729talk 16:43, 16 July 2023 (UTC)

U.S. Women's World Cup Record
[edit]@DB1729 You made a change to the U.S. Women's national Football team's 2023 Record based on Tie (draw)#Association football. Within the description of Tie (draw) it states "a penalty shootout (officially called "kicks from the penalty mark") is used to determine which team is to progress to the next stage of the tournament". Within that statement the article links to penalty shootout (football). In the description of penalty shootout it states "A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark until July 2023, thereafter penalties (penalty shoot-out)) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw". By definition of the term used in the description of Tie (draw) a penalty shootout is used to determine who is awarded the victory for a match that cannot end in a draw. Does this not mean that the final game the U.S. played was a loss? Demt1298 (talk) 13:03, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Demt1298: Hi. I assume you're referring to this revert[2] of mine. International soccer matches that end in PKs, are for statistical purposes, considered draws. The wording I failed to emphasize within Tie (draw)#Association football is:
If the score continues tied even after this time, the match technically remains a draw; however, a penalty shootout is used to determine which team is to progress to the next stage of the tournament.
. In the article you have linked here, there is a section, Penalty shoot-out (association football)#Statistical record that states:A shoot-out is usually considered for statistical purposes to be separate from the match which preceded it...in the case of a single match, it is still considered as a draw.
--DB1729talk 14:04, 10 August 2023 (UTC)- @DB1729 Thank you for your response. I have a couple more concerns. Two of the three references in this section of the article are invalid and the third is at best a weak reference. The first references the 2007/2008 Laws of the game, the current 2023-24 Laws of the Game do not reference statistical outcomes at all. The second is a dead link to a UEFA page, even if it wasn't dead I am not sure UEFA should be used to reference a FIFA level competition. And the third references is a 2014 article in futbolyou.com that has a PDF of their reading of the 2014 FIFA world rankings rules. I think better primary references need to be used for this section, and ensure this is still what should be listed in that article. Demt1298 (talk) 14:27, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Demt1298: I just wanted to reiterate that it's common practice in football/soccer to statistically count match results only on actual play time, not penalties. In other words, matches that are decides by penalties count as a draw. I don't have a reference, I have just accepted it as fact since a long time ago, but I'm sure there's an official statement somewhere. --Mango från yttre rymden (talk) 23:59, 31 August 2023 (UTC)

I am getting suicidal. I am autistic and I do not deserve to be bombarded by your email even if all you are trying to do is to help. I'm sorry. Please leave me alone and delete all the information that I have tried to post tonight. It is now killing me. BoothSR (talk) 22:43, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
- I have absolutely not attempted to email you. If you have some sort of email notification set up to notify you when your talk page is edited, I have no knowledge of that. The reason your talk page appeared on the category page is because you yourself added the category declaration on your talk page in one of your talk page comments. I had already suppressed it with this edit nearly an hour ago so your page shouldn't be appearing in that category any more. Those last two edits of mine an hour ago were made solely in an effort correct that very problem you are now complaining to me about, and I had no intention of contacting you again in any way in the future. [edit]Hi. Please note that there is no such company as Bréguet, the name is spelled without any accent, as Breguet. - @Steelpillow: I have no opinion on the use of the accent. The template is reported in Wikipedia:Database reports/Invalid Navbar links because the name parameter value has broken the view-talk-edit links. My edit was merely fixing that problem as explained in my edit summary. If the accent doesn't belong then please rename the template. --DB1729talk 17:42, 1 March 2024 (UTC)

- @Xnlump:. I've never created an article myself so I'm probably not the best person to help you, but I feel I should direct you to Wikipedia:Notability (people). Note in the basic criteria section where it states:
People are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject.
I also recommend reading Help:Your first article. If you need general help, there is Wikipedia:Teahouse. Best of luck to you. DB1729talk 23:06, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
Aftermath
[edit]Hello! How are you? I was pleasantly surprised to see your username in the history of Sweden–NATO relations and thought I would check by you. I'm in absolutely no position to put forth any demands after my slow responses, but seeing that my thread has been archived, I conclude that I wasn't forgotten, but rather ignored. I hope I didn't offend you. It was a mistake to notify Tomas e. I thought I would be a good fella to wikilink, but I wasn't aware that that created a ping. It wasn't like that when I started here in 2017, at least not on the Swedish site. There and then, one had to use a ping template to create an alert for that user. And my long astray commenting on last years soccer tournament was to make a point that the subject is important enough to put effort in it, even if you think you are subpar (which you aren't). Kind regards. --Mango från yttre rymden (talk) 23:57, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

So I put it off, and put it off, and put it off some more, like the procrastinator I can be at times. I think I've mentioned before, I feel burdened by having to type out long paragraphs of text. Not my strength. Hit me with one thing at time and I will gladly, and promptly, reply:) DB1729talk 09:08, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

- No problem:) Thanks for the note and have a great rest of your day! DB1729talk 10:42, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
Flag bearers at the Opening Ceremony
[edit]Hello! Can you add futher articles aobut Parade of Nations at the Opening Ceremony from 1948 to 1964 and also national flag bearers at the Winter Games from 1952 to 1976. 193.161.216.9 (talk) 15:04, 24 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi! Not really my thing as I did not create any of those articles. I updated the flag bearers since the last Olympics and little more than that. DB1729talk 15:10, 24 May 2024 (UTC)
Unexpected viewing date
[edit]Hello! I am noticing why I am viewing this page on 07/18/24. Independence day is 07/04/24 in the way my laptop takes my date. How did time fly, and why is time taking my to the month of August?
I woild also like to inform you that it is not 2025 January 1 yet. CrystopherJohn (talk) 15:08, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
Unexpected viewing date (revision because wrong grammar)
[edit]Hi! I notice why I am viewing this page on July, and this is a revision because of some misspelled words. (Only one).
I would also like to inform you that it is neither 2025 nor 2026 since I made this message. Thanks. CrystopherJohn (talk) 22:05, 18 July 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for catching spelling mistakes
[edit]I try to be good about spelling, but I'm better at research. So thanks for cleaning up after some of my mistakes earlier, in what is still today for me. 🌿MtBotany (talk) 04:02, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- You're welcome! I'm happy to be of help wherever I can. --DB1729talk 06:23, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
Centromedian and centromedial are different nuclei.
[edit]@DB1729 The centromedian nucleus is correct. See [3]. Please revert your change to the core-matrix theory article. Alan U. Kennington (talk) 04:40, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- On second thoughts, the word centromedian is what you changed it to. So your correction is correct. But it was not a typing error I think. It was just some ancient piece of incorrect text. (I didn't write it.) Cheers. Alan U. Kennington (talk) 04:48, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- @DB1729 The mistake was made in 2012. [4]. Thanks for spotting it. Alan U. Kennington (talk) 04:52, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Alan U. Kennington: Hi. I was working off Wikipedia:Database reports/Linked misspellings and I'm generally diligent about checking suspect or unfamiliar misspelling rcats and I usually check the edit histories of those redirects. In this case I saw this edit of yours, did a quick google search of the spelling to confirm and thought it was safe to go ahead and correct it;) --DB1729talk 04:59, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- @DB1729 Excellent! You got it right. It's a really annoying confusion.
- Centromedian is a posterior intralaminar nucleus.
- Central medial is an anterior intralaminar nucleus.
- Centromedial is a spelling error! (Normally this would be a synonym for "central medial", but in this case it is not. Duh!)
- The whole naming system for the thalamus is a mess. And I'm gradually tidying it up. I've been tidying it for a month or more now. It will take a while yet! Thanks again. Alan U. Kennington (talk) 05:09, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Alan U. Kennington: I can see how that can be confusing. I know little to nothing on the topic, but it looks like you're doing some good work.
- From my angle, I've learned to be careful when making fixes from the linked misspellings database. It's populated from redirects that have the {{R from misspelling}} template, which is only for misspellings that should be fixed. What I need to be aware is that sometimes editors add that rcat when it's not really a misspelling, but an alternate spelling and shouldn't necessarily be fixed. In some cases they should not be fixed at all. Indeed, sometimes when I fix a linked misspelling, my correction itself is another redirect, one that shouldn't be fixed in certain contexts. DB1729talk 13:36, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- @DB1729 Understood. But in this case, you did make the correct correction, of an error which I had not noticed because I didn't proof-read that full article.
- In that particular case, I used the "misspelling" redirect because most likely anyone using "centromedial" was misspelling "centromedian", which I have seen from time to time. It's difficult to be confident that the writer was misspelling a word, or in this case making up the compound word "centromedial" from "central medial". Since there was no "R from" redirect code that I could find which would fit, I used "R from misspelling".
- I should also mention that it was someone else who created the redirect. In 2009: [5]. I just felt that every redirect needed a redirect type. So I guessed as close as I could. Maybe the more strictly correct thing would have been to delete it.
- In fact, even now, it would be strictly best to delete that redirect. It could be better to just get a red-link rather than get an incorrect link. I don't think it's important enough to merit some kind of disambiguation page! Alan U. Kennington (talk) 13:59, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Alan U. Kennington: While I'm glad I got it right, I feel it was partly due to luck on my part. But as you point out, the rcat did prove useful here. I thinks it's probably fine as is but it's entirely up to you. With your knowledge you would know better than me. Cheers!:-) DB1729talk 14:04, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- @DB1729 Okay. After thinking through the options, I've decided the current compromise is the least bad. So I'll leave it as it is for now. Many thanks for the discussion, which has enlightened me (a mere beginner), and for putting so much time and effort into this rather minor matter. Cheers for now! Alan U. Kennington (talk) 14:34, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
