The barque sprang a leak and sank 13 nautical miles (24 km) off the mouth of the Nun River . Her crew were rescued by the steamship RMS Loanda ( United Kingdom ). Ariel was on a voyage from Liverpool , Lancashire to Lagos , Africa.[ 1] [ 2]

The ship ran aground at Lagos , Africa and was wrecked. She was on a voyage from Africa to Falmouth, Cornwall .[ 3]

United Kingdom
The ship was driven ashore . She was on a voyage from Saint-Malo , Ille-et-Vilaine , France to Newport, Monmouthshire . She was refloated on 8 July and taken in to Ilfracombe , Devon .[ 4]
Tromp
Netherlands
The steamship ran aground off Cape Räz Ghärib , Egypt . She was on a voyage from the Nieuw Diep to Batavia , Netherlands East Indies . She was refloated on 10 August and towed in to Suez , Egypt by the tug Timsah ( United Kingdom ). Tromp was subsequently repaired and returned to service.[ 5] [ 6]
