kriec
Middle High German
editEtymology
editFrom Old High German krēg, *krieg. Related with northern West Germanic *krīg, but not from it. The different vocalism between High and Low German is very stable at all times and in all dialects. Ripuarian is the only transition zone, showing the northern vowel in the verb krijje and the southern vowel in the noun Kreech.
