editInherited from Proto-Turkic *yügsük (“thimble”), from *yüg~*yig, whence also ییو (yiv, “groove, channel”). Ultimately from Proto-Turkic *yü-~*yi- (“to sew”);[3] cognate with Azerbaijani üskük, Turkmen ýüwse and Hungarian gyűszű.
