editFrom Ottoman Turkish چاپاق (çapak),[1] ultimately from Proto-Turkic *čalp-. Cognate with Uyghur چاپاق (chapaq, “fump, (eye) gum”), Karakhanid [script needed] (çalpak, “dirt”).[2] Also related to Karakhanid [script needed] (çalpaŋ, “mud”).
