- This is meant to distinguish the EMI-distributed pressing from the plain-vanilla Relax-In International pressing. It should be there, especially for record collectors. Peace. —MuzikJunky (talk) 08:33, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- We can adequately distinguish between the two with text describing the difference. If record collectors want to see the alternate covers they can search through google. Wikipedia is not an image repository - Peripitus (Talk) 23:48, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am going to put it back up because this is the official cover of the special edition wether you think by changing the background and adding effects to the image is legit or not this is the offical cover and it deserves place in the artical. The image also does not, in any shape or form, deflect from the artical. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mirrored Love (talk • contribs) 00:05, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- Non-free image that we have here for no discernable reason I can see. Adds nothing significant to reader's understanding and abjectly fails WP:NFCC#8. - Would you apply the same rational on this one? Although the album art is "simple", the fonts and exact layout cannot be reproduced in pure HTML across different browsers (also there are non-text elements too, such as the record label logo). All the appropriate non-free rational is provided, so I'm not sure what the motivation is here. +mt 18:23, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- The gateway mall conservancy went live today[1], and I was told by them that I may take any of their photos and use them as creative commons. I guess that means this picture should not be listed as fair use, but as CC. The Hallway feature is the unifying feature of the mall, and should be included on the page in some form. You may note on the conservancy's website that it is the very first tab, and the rendering is the strongest conveyor of the concept. DaronDierkes (talk) 01:25, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. - File:Sir Noel Power.jpg.jpg (delete | talk | history | logs) - uploaded by Clithering (notify | contribs).
- non-free image without a clear source. The subject was a widely photographed public figure and it seems clear that a free image could be obtained of him, though it may take some effort. Displaying his appearance at a different time of his career, rather than the portion that this image depicts, is not going to significantly harm reader's understanding of his biography. Image fails WP:NFCC#1 as replaceable with a free image ( I can see many images of him on the web - just go and ask the owners if they will release under free licences ) Peripitus (Talk) 12:32, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Object. The photo suitably falls into the category of fair-use photo. Sir Noel was widely remembered as Chief Justice of Hong Kong. A photo of him dressing in judicial robe greatly helps reader identify him as a judge. Moreover, effort has been made but no free image of him has been found.--Clithering (talk) 13:11, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- From what I can see on the web he is also well remembered for his work in Brunei, and in this capacity I can see a lot of images of him. We must credit reader's with the imagination to see him one way and understand the article regardless of the clothes he is wearing. - Peripitus (Talk) 22:17, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Firstly, I can't see there are "many images of him on the web" (There are only four relevent images found by typing "Sir Noel Power" in Google). Secondly, I don't see how other images of him in leisure wear taken in elsewhere can help reader "remember his work in Brunei". Thirdly, none of his photo on the web is copyright-free. I don't see why the present photo must not be used, why the photo does not fall under the definition of fair use, and why it is nominated for speedy deletion. --Clithering (talk) 09:50, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- non-free poster of a tour in an article that is replete with free images - any of which could be used in the infobox rather than this. The image is not discussed at length in the article, in fact I cannot find that it is even mentioned. Purely decorative use that does not significantly increase reader's understanding. Image fails WP:NFCC#8 and its use could easily be covered by one of the free image - it also fails to meet WP:NFCC#1 Peripitus (Talk) 12:36, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Not to state WP:WAX, but do you think that all posters, album covers, single covers, film posters, book covers are discussed in the articles? The answer is no. They are present because they are necessary and useful. The image present in the poster is definitely not from the tour and free alternative won't be found for it as it is created specifically for the promotion of the tour. --Legolas (talk2me) 03:35, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Useful is insufficient to meet the non-free requirements here and "necessary" must usually be demonstrated. Why exactly is this image necessary to significantly increase reader's understanding ? - Peripitus (Talk) 03:59, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Because it visually denotes the purpose of a poster. That is to promote the tour. In this case the promotion has been discussed including the ticket sales and media notability. Also, the development of the poster, including where the image was taken is present in the article, which is the main criteria for WP:NFCC#8. Hence it doesnot fail in any way.--Legolas (talk2me) 10:13, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The image was just downloaded from a website that uses many images from many sources without attributing them, although stating that these images "are obtained from several image providers who are free on the Internet for nonprofit educational projects" [2] (translation by google). - Keep- I asked MBisanz and Shell Kinney two respected OTRS members their opinion in regard to this image. MBisanz recommended that {{PD-old-50}} be used. Shell Kinney stated the following "Now the image itself; since it is most likely from around 1948 when he was boxing in the Olympics, it may not have fallen into the public domain yet. I think though that this image an excellent candidate for fair-use. The image is historical (his time in the Olympics, first time for Puerto Rico), nothing similar could be taken (he is no longer in the Olympics and deceased in any case) and the article discusses his participation in the Olympics in detail, I believe it satisfies all the fair-use criteria." I also believe that the image could be used as fair use. Tony the Marine (talk) 20:33, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Don't be disingenuous. You actually asked 3 users: MBisanz[3], Shell Kinney[4] and Me[5]. I pointed you out why images from that source can't be freely used[6], Shell Kinney said we need to track down the original source before claiming PD or fair use[7] and MBisanz simply said "You should use {{PD-old-50}}"[8]. You conveniently choose the most attractive reply (MBisanz's) and ignored the concerns raised by the the others. I'm getting tired of you trickeries for fostering the use of policy-infringing images. --Damiens.rf 21:16, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Stop turning these issues into a personal interaction between you and I. You claim that you are getting tired of me, however I am also getting tired of the way you direct yourself towards me. I have tried to deal with you in the most civil of ways despite your past insults, however your actions towards my person leaves a lot to be desired. Do not get personal and let this take it's course. Sometimes it is impossible to determine the copyright of an image and you know that. That is why we have this: {{Non-free fair use in}} and a fair-use criteria. I will post on the image the rationale for it's taking into consideration the fair-use criteria. - Nonfree image (beyond the first for identification) being used to decorate article on fictional characters. The fact that Person A shot Person B and was then distraught about it can be described in text, and the image is not particularly iconic. (ESkog)(Talk) 21:07, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- Nonfree image (beyond the first for identification) being used to decorate article on a fictional character. Completely replaceable by text; a man crying is not a particularly iconic image. (ESkog)(Talk) 21:09, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. Based on {{PD-Cuba}} I don't see how a picture of this 1985 coin could be anything other than a derivative image. There's no specific mention of Cuban currency at commons:Commons:Currency to consider and nobody commenting here has given a good reason for supposing that there is an exception to the usual PD-Cuba rules forin the case of currency. Since this is a derivative work and since the use of non-free content for this purpose is specifically disallowed (see WP:NFCI, point 3), there doesn't appear to be any way to retain this image. - cuban government works are under perpetual copyright, see {{PD-Cuba}} Calliopejen1 (talk) 21:39, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Actually now that I look at it, I'm not 100% sure. I made that template a while ago. I put the govt thing there because I thought a government would be a "persona jurídica" (see the talk page for the text of the law in Spanish) but I'm not 100% sure. The page legal person lists states as an example of a legal person, but I guess it would depend on the jurisdiction. Any native spanish speakers with some legal background want to chime in? :) Calliopejen1 (talk) 21:43, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- I would like to see concrete proof that images of Cuban coins are copyrighted. I am not at all convinced by the "government works" argument. In the UK, banknotes are copyrighted (I'm not sure about coins) but this is not because they are government works. They are copyrighted by The Bank of England, which is independent of the Government. I know we are discussing an image of a Cuban coin, but the copyright status of this image can not be assumed to fall fall under a perpetual copyright owned by the Cuban government. - It is also a picture of a commemorative coin, taken by me, outside of Cuba and not intended as currency. I hope Fidel doesn't send a Hit Squad after me now.--Mike - Μολὼν λαβέ 00:10, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- Talk page is Template talk:PD-Cuba. Anyways this is a creative work made in 1985. Even if it were made by a private citizen it would still be copyrighted in Cuba. Do you have any argument for why this would be PD now? Calliopejen1 (talk) 14:45, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- I don't see how it is not PD. It is a photograph of a coin, taken by me, not the Cuban government. By your own admission, you are not 100% sure, either. If I were to take a picture of a building built in Cuba by the government, would they claim that as the same?--Mike - Μολὼν λαβέ 16:50, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- The 1977 Cuban copyright Act has this to say regarding limitations of copyright. Chapter 8, Section 1a, allows use "for the purposes of education, information, criticism, illustration" but stipulates that the author's name and source must be given. Section 1c says, "to reproduce by any means, except those involving direct contact with the surface, a work of art on permanent display in public except those in exhibitions in museums". Article 45 says, "In the case of a work published anonymously, or under a pseudonym, the copyright is valid for twenty years after its first publication." I am not expert on Cuban copyright law, but it I think it would be helpful to discover who designed the coin. If this is not possible I think the Article 45 might be applicable. Having said this, because Wikipedia is a non-profit making, educational organisation, use of this image does not seem to contravene Cuban copyright laws. - I'll see if I can find that out, Graham, about the artist. I have a feeling it will be tough as I know how certain countries are about recognizing individual achievement. Still, in researching this I have found numerous photos of Cuban coins in question on commercial sites (including another Cuban peso with a more realistic picture of the iguana than the one I have); knowing how the Cuban government is about money, and having to pay them personally for flying within their airspace and receiving assorted nastygrams; I would think if this was a real issue these coin vendors would not be doing it. Also the bulk of coin related articles on wikipedia would have no pictures. I guess someone has to keep wikipedia safe from the likes of me, a self-proclaimed hater of Family Guy!--Mike - Μολὼν λαβέ 17:37, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- Doesn't meet criteria for fair use. The image is also watermarked and said watermark can't be removed without violating the terms of the copyright holder's license, per their terms of use (images may be copied or distributed provided each and every such image bears the following credit line: "Image courtesy of Computer History Museum."). This is also an easily replaceable image, as the subject of the image still exists to be photographed. — Bility (talk) 22:48, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
