The Glitterball

edit

This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of The Glitterball, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.screenonline.org.uk/film/id/1147530/synopsis.html.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) MadmanBot (talk) 14:06, 27 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Blake's 7, Series 4 Logo.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Dark Shadows (novels)

edit

Hello The Leviathan Vampire Girl,

It seems to me that an article you worked on, Dark Shadows (novels), may be copied from http://homepage.ntlworld.com/john.seymour1/ukbookguide/USASeries/DarkShadows-OriginalNovels-01-11.html. It's entirely possible that I made a mistake, but I wanted to let you know because Wikipedia is strict about copying from other sites.

It's important that you edit the article and rewrite it in your own words, unless you're absolutely certain nothing in it is copied. If you're not sure how to fix the problem or have any questions, there are people at the help desk who are happy to assist you.

Thank you for helping build a free encyclopedia! MadmanBot (talk) 14:52, 12 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

advice

edit

As reviewing administrator, I deleted the articles; copyright applies to everything that is published (with some specific exceptions that do not apply here), whether or not a copyright notice is present, unless there is a notice specifically giving a free license. See WP:COPYRIGHT and the article on Copyright DGG ( talk ) 16:06, 12 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Talk page archiving

edit

Hello. Thanks for your well-meant efforts at cleaning up Talk:Dark Shadows. However, we can't simply delete other editors' talk page posts. If you'd like to archive the discussions on that page, please have a read of Help:Archiving a talk page. You might also find Wikipedia:Refactoring talk pages useful. Your comments on Talk:Dark Shadows (novels)

edit

You said that the source has no claim to copyright, but we have to assume copyright unless the source is explicitly placed in the public domain or released under a compatible license - see Wikipedia:Copy-paste. Most sources are automatically protected by copyright under rules such as the Berne Convention, even if the author did not apply for copyright or place a copyright notice in their work.

You also claimed fair use, but non-free material needs to meet all ten of the conditions at WP:NFCC, and this fails WP:NFCC#1 because another plot summary could be written, and WP:NFCC#5 because an article consisting almost entirely of reproductions of publishers' blurbs is far from being encyclopedic or meeting Wikipedia's standards. This would not have been kept, even apart from the copyright issue.

See WP:WAF if you are interested in writing about fiction. JohnCD (talk) 20:20, 12 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

What I added to the article was the back cover blurbs from each of the books, hence why the website quoted also has them. Dark Shadows (audio drama) also uses back cover blurbs in the same fashion except in that case for audio productions. It's why I feel what was posted, cover blurbs, at Dark Shadows (novels) was/is acceptable for use here. The Leviathan Vampire Girl (talk) 08:15, 13 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
No, sorry, those are copyright as well - and in that case the source website says Copyright © 2013 Big Finish Productions. Even if they took it from the back cover blurbs, those are still copyright, anything must be assumed to be copyright unless explicitly PD or released under a CC-BY-SA compatible license. Whether the website has the right to use the blurbs I have no idea, many people are very careless about copyright, but Wikipedia has to be extremely careful, because what we publish is with a license that tells our readers thay may copy, modify and re-use for any purpose including commercial. Please read Wikipedia:Copy-paste, it's very important. JohnCD (talk) 17:36, 13 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
I can accept that, thanks for the explanation. The Leviathan Vampire Girl (talk) 08:37, 14 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (File:Darkshadows-novel-cover.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Darkshadows-novel-cover.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:14, 14 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Dan Ross (novelist), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Angelique (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Deletion discussion about The Glitterball

edit

Hello, The Leviathan Vampire Girl,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether The Glitterball should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Glitterball .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks, SarahStierch (talk) 22:34, 25 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
