Stub tags

edit

Hi. Regarding this edit of yours. Just letting you know that stub template tags should be transcluded.

Do not copy/paste the contents of the stub template itself into articles. In this case your edit included the addition the stub templates' respective categories to the article, causing miscategorization of the article and also causing the categories to be included this week's Wikipedia:Database reports/Template categories containing articles.

Instead, for a biology-related stub, add {{Biology-stub}} as explained at Template:Biology-stub and it will produce the same message and it will automatically add the article to Category:Biology stubs.

I have fixed the problem here, while also using the most specific stub template available, which is also best-practice. Thanks for your time and for all you do. Cheers! --DB1729talk 01:37, 7 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Oh, ok, sorry. So I just memorize the syntax and add it?
Shadestar474 (talk) 01:49, 7 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
P.S, how do I find the most specific template? I knew that that was best practice, but I didn’t know how to find it.Shadestar474 (talk) 01:49, 7 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
So I just memorize the syntax and add it?
Once you've found the template you want to use, just follow the instructions on the template's page. Typically there will a Usage section where it says something like: "Typing {{...-stub}} produces the message shown at the beginning, and adds the article to the following category:" But yes, if you can just remember to wrap the name of the template in double curly brackets {{}} you will find that very useful, because in fact, that's the syntax for all templates.
how do I find the most specific template? I knew that that was best practice, but I didn’t know how to find it.
Generally how I do it is to start at Category:Stub message templates and click the relevant subcategory and keep narrowing it down until I get to a stub template that best suits the article, or until the tree doesn't get any more specific. However, in this case, I just so happened to click on the existing content category Category:EC 1.14.13 and it had the stub template category included as a subcat, which in turn had a link to Template:1.14.13-enzyme-stub. (Don't count on being able to find it through a content category like that very often though.)
Does this help? --DB1729talk 02:39, 7 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes, thank you so much! I’ll try my best to do that next time. Shadestar474 (talk) 03:17, 7 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
(talk page watcher) @DB1729 For stub sorting I use WikiProject Stub sorting's list. I don't know if there's a speed difference though. Rusty4321 talk contribs 15:41, 11 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism

edit

It is one thing to want to fight vandalism. Another entirely to have the right skills. This edit of yours was erroneous. See Gross anatomy. Please do not intefere with articles where you lack the specialist knowledge to know the difference between a term of art, and vandalism. --Tagishsimon (talk) 21:59, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Sorry. I just wanted to help. I will research any article I am editing from now on.
So sorry, Shadestar474 (talk) 22:06, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Grant High School (Van Nuys) alumni

edit

I added Glenn Dicterow and Larry Gagosian to the alumni list. My citation is that I attended Grant High School when they did and knew them there. I am the primary source. My name is Ken Krich. 73.15.20.133 (talk) 05:54, 24 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

A source needs to be a reliable source, the definition of which is summed up in WP:RS. It’s not that we don’t trust you, it’s just that an encyclopedia needs to be vigorously fact-checked. Please read WP:RS and WP:OR.

Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Jake Diebler: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template index/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. Rahio1234 05:27, 5 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

I did warn them, what do you mean? Shadestar474 (talk) 05:29, 5 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

edit

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:54, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
