hey guys - i have looked up all i could find on image tagging, fair use, etc. but i do not know how to implement it. i want to claim that the image is protected under your fair use clause, and also add the copywrite info - that is held by Topps Chewing Gum, Inc. - Thanks for the review. I added a bit more detail about the chronology. I may tweak it a bit more. In terms of Li's later life and recognition - I was surprised at how little information was available. I have not been able to find an obituary. By contrast, there were several obituaries and memorial papers about Li's boss at NCI Roy Hertz. The only paper I could find that was specifically about Li came out in 2002, 22 years after his death. Hertz died in 2002 so this paper may have been an attempt to recognize Li in light of the tributes to Hertz. I've based a lot of the detail on Li's own account of his experiments. Ideally, if there were better third-party sources I wouldn't do this, but the fact that his retrospective paper appeared in a peer-reviewed journal, and that there are so few secondary sources that speak to his thinking and motivation give me some confidence in relying on this source. A logical next step, if I'm still interested in this topic, would be to write an article about Hertz.
- I think this lack of information on his later life just makes your question of why he didn't receive more recognition - even a Nobel Prize nomination - more interesting. Reading between the lines from the fact that he was fired from NCI and that later articles focused on Hertz (in one case prompting Li to reply with a letter to the editor), I get the impression that Li was not particularly well liked. He also didn't seem to have that big of an impact after this initial work in the 1950s.
- Setting aside the personal issues, was this Nobel-worthy work on its merits? Li was smart enough or lucky enough to find a cancer that just happened to be very responsive to chemotherapy. However, choriocarcinoma is a pretty rare form of cancer (it occurs in about 1 in 20,000 pregnancies in the US and perhaps 1 in 2,000 in parts of the developing world). Mukherjee cites a source that says curing choriocarcinoma saves about 35 lives in the US each year, which is great but pales in comparison to, say, lung cancer. I think the historical significance of Li's work was that it demonstrated that chemotherapy could be useful for solid tumors. Farber had previously shown that chemotherapy could have some (small) benefits for leukemia but chemotherapy was still seen as very experimental. So I think Li's work was an important iterative step, but not a huge breakthrough. Farber himself didn't win a Nobel Prize. I want to include some information about the incidence of choriocarcinoma in my article.
- That leads back to your question about the connection with Jane C. Wright. Li doesn't cite her in his account - although he does credit another female scientist (Von Gilse, a Dutch researcher who worked with Li at Sloan-Kettering in 1954 - he doesn't give a first name) with using methotrexate to treat a melanoma patient. The patient didn't improve, but the experience gave Li the insight about the hCG levels. I don't have evidence that Wright directly influenced Li but I think she set the stage for a lot of subsequent work by trying methotrexate on solid tumors for the first time.

- OK, I think maybe you also don't know you have a .js page. Try this:
1) Go to your main user page (not talk page), and up in the URL type a forward slash and after that these words: common.js, and then your Enter key. It will probably tell you no such page named User:Girona7/common.js exists and tell you that you can create the page. Click where it says you can create the page. It should open a blank edit box, just like you do in any other page, except up in your URL it will read: User:Girona7/common.js .
2) Copy and paste what is below into the blank edit box, and and hit your Enter key:
importScript('User:Shubinator/DYKcheck.js'); //DYKcheck tool
That should create your .js page with the DYKcheck tool in it. After that is created, look over to the left of your user page and see if in the Toolbox at the bottom it says DYK check. If it does, you're set up. All you have to do is go to any page and click the DYK check. It will run a check and tell you the count.
If you do not see the DYK check in the Toolbox, please post a message on Village pump (technical) and ask someone to look at your page to see what needs to be tweaked to get the DYK check into your toolbox. And good luck. — Maile (talk) 20:30, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

- You are most welcome, Raryel! In case you are unaware: A helpful trick is to use the citation toolbar anytime you add a citation. Simply put your cursor where you want the citation to go, then click "Cite" and then "Templates" on the menu atop the text editing area. Anyway, thanks for your work on the Murray article, too! Linda Katehi: Involvement in STEM
editHello Girona7! I found your name on the list of members at the WikiProject Women scientists page and wanted to ask you for your help. Maybe you've seen the message I left on the Women scientists discussion page last week, but I'm looking for someone to help with part of the article for UC Davis chancellor Linda Katehi.
Right now the information under the "Involvement in STEM" heading in her article is actually just about STEM in California in general. I'd like to replace this information with a few paragraphs that are about Katehi instead.
I am aware, as an editor with a conflict of interest, that I shouldn't fix up this information myself so I have shared on the article's discussion page a few paragraphs that I think would be a good replacement. Here is my earlier message. Would you be able to take a look at this and maybe help me out?

- Hi LindaF UC Davis - I'm glad it worked out. Thanks for your efforts to improve Wikipedia! By the way, if you are ever interested in getting other UC Davis community members to improve articles on UC Davis-related topics, you might consider an edit-a-thon. My opinion is that conflicts of interest can vary in degree, and that sometimes it's perfectly fine to make edits, even if you have a connection to the subject, so long as you are transparent about it, as you have been in this one case. Edit-a-thons that cover location-based or university-based themes are relatively common, and a great way to introduce students, faculty, and staff to Wikipedia. Linda Katehi: Reorganization and 2011 Occupy protest

Very recently, I've left two new messages on the discussion page for editors to look over about restructuring the entire article in order to organize the information more logically and about condensing the information about the protest in 2011, so that the section just focuses on Katehi's actions. At the same time, I don't really have the time to review this right now, and I'm going to be honest and throw out there that I'm also not sure I agree with your taking so much energy to restructure her page, knowing the direct relationship you have with UC Davis. As I've said previously, I appreciate your honesty in disclosing your relationship, but at the same time, I would remind you that Wikipedia is not a platform for publicity. The edits from last time seemed appropriate, but when you start asking to condense or remove content relating to a controversy, that raises a red flag for me. - Hi, @Shaslang. Yes, you can just delete anything that's odd or strange or that doesn't make sense. You don't have to leave a talk page message, but you should definitely leave a note in the "Edit Summary" field (right above "save page" / "preview" buttons). Here's a page on basic editing policies, including removing stuff. Personally, I suggest you make a number of smaller deletions rather than one larger deletion if possible so that a) you can more easily explain why you are removing each bundle of text w/o having to use the talk page; and b) if other ppl have issues with what you did, they won't revert the whole thing, but only the part they have issues with. - To be a little talkpagestalkish and chime in - @Shaslang:, I forget what article it was, but at one point I deleted more than 10,000 words in one edit from an article because I thought the article was better without any of those words in it. With really big deletions like that it's definitely better to make a talk page note about it, but I'd highly encourage you to go ahead and delete stuff that just doesn't make sense when you come across it. In academic settings there's sometimes a hesitancy or reluctance to make mass deletions when someone asks you to edit their writing, but the same thing doesn't quite apply here, because articles don't belong to anyone in particular. (Of course, some people will still get offended when you delete content from an article - but plenty of weird things happen on Wikipedia, and that's usually one of the easier situations to calm down.) Wiki Loves Pride

You are invited to participate in Wiki Loves Pride, a global campaign to create and improve LGBT-related content at Wikipedia during the month of June, culminating with a multinational edit-a-thon on June 21. The project is being spearheaded by two organizers with roots in the Pacific Northwest. Meetups are being organized in some cities, or you can participate remotely. Wikimedia Commons will also be hosting an LGBT-related photo challenge. In Portland, there are two ways to contribute. One is a photography campaign called "Pride PDX", for pictures related to LGBT culture and history. The Wiki Loves Pride edit-a-thon will be held on Saturday, June 21 from noon–4pm at Smith Memorial Student Union, Room 236 at Portland State University. Prior Wikipedia editing is not required; assistance will be available the day of the event. Attendees should bring their own laptops and cords. Feel free to showcase your work here!

- Hi, @MarkTraceur. Thanks for your note. I would appreciate it if you didn't remove the redlink. Among other things, that she is mostly notable for this case doesn't make her not notable. (There are plenty of Supreme Court plaintiffs or defendants who became notable because of the case in question.) I don't have the time to create an article for Hopkins immediately, but I have alerted several Wikipedians that this would be a good subject, and I'm sure one of us will get to it soon. - It's my understanding - admittedly maybe flawed - that if your fame is due to one event, then that event should be covered, and not you personally. I'd imagine most plaintiffs/defendants who become famous are covered independently of the trial coverage, or at least the trial coverage includes coverage of them personally as well as coverage of the background of the case. - I'm not sure where you're getting that info from; plenty of people are famous for one event, and they themselves also deserve a page in addition to the event. Rosa Parks would be one very obvious example. Or, if you want an example from a Supreme Court case, take William Marbury from Marbury v. Madison. If you want to keep an eye on an article, or in this case a DYK nomination, you can add it to your watchlist by clicking the star next to "View history" tab near the top of the page. Edit-a-thon Draft Report on Meta
editHello Girona7, I’m from the Program Evaluation & Design team at the WMF. Late last year we received data on edit-a-thons which were completed between September 2013 and September 2014--now the edit-a-thon evaluation report draft is ready for your review. I'm reaching out now because we would love your feedback before we announce the report to the broader community.
- Does the analysis and presentation resonate with your programs?
- How is the report useful to you as a program leader?
- What other data would help to tell the story of edit-a-thons?
Also, would you be willing to contribute a quote for the report? For example, your edit-a-thon was particularly successful at generating content and including a high proportion of new users. What do you think was the biggest contributing factor to that success? If you can send a quote by August 16th I would love to include it in the report.
We were able to present 121 edit-a-thons that brought in 2,275 participants and included 5,272 articles created or improved. We expect that this report will help our communities have a more comprehensive view of editathons around the world.
If you want to discuss edit-a-thons and the report findings with other program leaders, we’re hosting a virtual panel of program leaders with group discussion on the themes and findings the week of August 24th. If you have key themes you would like to discuss in the hangout, please do share them on the report talk page!
The estimated plan for review:
- Program leaders who submitted data to review until August 16.
- L&E to incorporate feedback and announce on the PE&D mailing list and social media the week of August 17.
- WMF blog post and a virtual panel the week of August 24.

I’m Alex, currently a finance fellow (i.e intern) at the Wikimedia Foundation. I worked before for Wikimedia France, planning the Hackathon Lyon 2015 mainly. I'm today contacting you because of your activity for Wikimedia New England User Group. Kevin Rutherford told me to contact you.
Last year, Finance Fellows produced a financial report that included financial activity from every chapters. It was great and has been presented at the Wikimania in Mexico.

We’re currently starting the Report 2014 and this year we also want to include user groups to improve the scope of our work. I want to tell you that I’ve tried to make the process as short and easy as possible, so that shouldn’t require a lot of your time.
The aim of such a report is global. It helps having an idea of how the money is used across the movement, it helps chapters and user groups to learn about best practice and finally it leads to more transparency through a qualitative work, which I believe is important.
Could you briefly tell me if you had any income and expenses in 2014? If you are not the person responsible for this, please tell me who is the user the most likely to know this information.

editHello, Girona7. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Hi Girona7 -- After a editathon which looks to have been organised by you, new editor Jenmul created an article on Mona Jhaveri, which was swiftly tagged for speedy deletion. I've declined the speedy but the subject's notability probably isn't clearly enough demonstrated and I fear further deletion efforts -- could you help Jenmul out with improving it? - Hi Espresso Addict, and thanks for your note. Appreciate the help on removing the deletion request. I will see if I can find further articles supporting her notability, but she seemed notable enough to me based on the existing source materials. I will also take a closer look at the reasoning for the tag placed on the article related to "close paraphrasing." I am E. Whittaker, an intern at Wikimedia with the Scoring Team to create a labeled dataset, and potentially a tool, to help editors deal with incivility when they encounter it on talk pages. A full write-up of the study can be found here: m:Research:Civil_Behavior_Interviews. We are currently recruiting editors to be interviewed about their experiences with incivility on talk pages.
