You don't have to log in to read or edit articles on Wikipedia, but if you wish to acquire additional privileges, you can simply create a named account. It's free, requires no personal information, and lets you:

Note that in order for the first three features to be available, you must have had an account for a certain number of days and made a certain number of edits.

If you edit without using a named account, your IP address (24.210.202.241) is used to identify you instead.

I hope that you, as a Wikipedian, decide to continue contributing to our project: an encyclopedia of human knowledge that anyone can edit. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, or you can click here to ask for help on your talk page, and a volunteer should respond shortly. We also have an intuitive guide on editing if you're interested. By the way, please make sure to sign and date your talk page comments with four tildes (~~~~).

Fortran

edit

There are some issues with your edits on the article Fortran. The basic problem is that an oral history cannot be used as a source for any information in an article, because no one can verify it. See Wikipedia's policy on reliable sources

Your edit has been deleted by other editors, and you have reinstated it, repeatedly. Of course, this cycle isn't getting any progress on improving the article, so, of course, it needs to stop.

This situation has come up often on Wikipedia, and is called an edit war. The solution is discussion between the editors involved. All articles have a talk page for this; in this case, it's Talk:Fortran. There, involved editors contribute to a discussion thread on the issue, named and created by the "New topic" button provided when editing the talk page. (The comments in edit summaries are not helpful for this purpose, as they are not organized for a discussion to reach some agreement.) We in Wikipedia appreciate bold editing to improve articles, but if others then disagree, discussion is expected to reach consensus on what best improves the article. This standard process of avoiding edit wars is called Bold, Revert, Discuss.

If you still feel that your edit improves the article per WP's standards, then the talk page is your path to make that happen. Further attempts to reinstate this without discussion will be removed by other editors in the WP community until then.

WP has many policies and guidelines for editors working together. WP:RS, WP:EW WP:BRD were liked above; you should also read WP:AFG (specifically, calling fellow editors "idiots" is counter-productive).

I hope this helps. If you have any questions or comments on any of the above, you can respond here this section I've started on your talk page. For help on WP in general, you may try the Wikipedia Tea House, a forum where all questions are welcome, and many editors can quickly respond. To discuss changes in the Fortran article, however, that should go on Talk:Fortran. I can start such that discussion section for you if you want; just ask here. --A D Monroe III(talk) 16:10, 9 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
