Current requests for increase in protection level

Reason: Requesting ECP. The edit history is a sea of reversions, and I have been informed that the subject might attempt something along the lines of Asian News International. This may also fall under the IPA CTOP. Toadspike [Talk] 20:04, 14 December 2024 (UTC)

Reason: Edit-warring by IP-hopping editor who (despite multiple talk page requests over several months for engagement, and multiple explanatory EDSUMMs from several other editors) continues to WP:HIJACK refs to add unsupported claims. And edits from multiple IPs to do so (making direct engagement via User Talk all but impossible). The most recent edit added odd formatting and a "reference which makes absolutely no mention of the subject of the article... Guliolopez (talk) 21:33, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
- Update. While the IP-hopping anon has (since I opened this PP thread) finally engaged on the article Talk page, I still wonder whether some form of action is needed. Anyway... Guliolopez (talk) 01:33, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
Reason: I am requesting protection for 10 articles: 2010 Little League World Series through 2019 Little League World Series, inclusive.
There has been, and continues to be (as recently as today), intermittent but persistent long-term vandalism by an anonymous editor who uses various IP addresses. This person (or perhaps bot) continues to demonstrate a clear determination to corrupt the information in these articles. Most edits to these articles over the past year have been vandalism and reverts thereof. As these articles are about events that happened 5+ years ago, few to no future legitimate changes are expected. Requesting page protection for an indefinite amount of time. Current requests for reduction in protection level
editBefore posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Reason: The protection is no longer necessary because i believe that the metaverse is now less associated with crypto and the blockchain - especially after the rise of spatial computing. 67.209.128.24 (talk) 15:46, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
- Suggested action: Lower to WP:WHITELOCK/WP:PCPP to prevent disruptive editing from cryptospammers while still allowing for broader contribution from legitimate editors (especially IPs like me). Otherwise, if no cryptospam is expected, remove protection completely. 67.209.128.24 (talk) 15:51, 8 December 2024 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page
editPlease request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
This, I think, is the first time I've made a suggestion. Hopefully, I'm doing this correctly.
The lateral fricative voiced retroflex, as an example, has an IPA representation of ɖɭ˔ according to its Wikipedia page, but the IPA Pulmonic table and other tables use the Unicode representation in the table and any font I have found just doesn't handle that character,
Would it be better to use the IPA representation which I think many fonts handle since the table has 'IPA' in its title and its link points to the Wikipedia page with both representations? The linked article each cell in the table states that the representation the IPA version and that the Unicode character is implied from that.
I'd be happy to make a list of each table and cell where this occurs if that is necessary and you think these will be worthwhile changes. BLWBebopKid (talk) 19:51, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
- Pinging @Kwamikagami as they are likely to have some insight to these issues. For me personally, I'm not sure. I happen to have fonts installed that handle the extIPA symbols, but I'm in the stark minority there. Remsense ‥ 论 01:46, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- ExtIPA is IPA. It's just a specialized subset. For example, extIPA can be used in the 'Illustrations of the IPA' published in JIPA.
- The issue is one of font support. The letters in question date to 2015, though they weren't added to Unicode until 2021. There are websites that list fonts that support various characters. These are supported by the SIL fonts, which are the best free IPA fonts available. If you don't have a good font installed, you're not going to be able to view IPA correctly anyway. That's why we have the IPA notice in articles, that you may need to install an IPA font to view the article properly. — kwami (talk) 05:32, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

User:Pbritti told me to. Apparently I qualify, and I've been cranking out a decent number of articled recently. Requesting AWB rights for an account created specifically for semi-automatic edits. (Here are my AWB edits on this account to date.) Remsense ‥ 论 04:44, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
Hi, I am re-requesting AWB perms. It was last denied because I had shown zero need for it but this time, I think I do have a reason. I had recently created Niagara (electoral district) and Middlesex North from a (redirect) to a Disambiguation page, and it has links. I would like to use AWB to update the links, and make it point to the right pages. I'm thinking there could be more "redirect-to-disambigaution" pages that would need updating links. Reason for Request: I am requesting reinstatement of Extended Confirmed Rights after their removal by User:ScottishFinnishRadish for concerns related to "gaming EC through adding a machine translation of Fondation Maeght and Rueil-Malmaison in many small edits without attribution." He asked me to "make at least a few hundred edits" to regain it. I understand the importance of maintaining trust and adhering to Wikipedia’s policies, and I’ve since reflected on how to better contribute responsibly. Since the removal, I have added attribution to the concerned articles. I have made over 300 referenced contributions, focusing on adding reliable sources to improve verifiability, expanding content in alignment with Wikipedia’s standards, and enhancing article quality. I believe my recent contributions demonstrate constructive and policy-compliant editing. Examples of Recent Contributions: Water metering, Smart meter, and Gas meter, which are in my area of expertise. New page revieweredit
Hi! I'd love to help out with the backlog. I have around ~40 AfD !votes, and I'm usually one of the first votes and always use strong guideline-backed reasoning. I've only had 1 AfD in the "red" cell of AfD Stats, that was a bio of a person from a non-English speaking country, and I tried to find sources in my WP:BEFORE, but nothing come up, and then another user more familiar with that country was able to dig something up so I withdrew (I don't think it should count as a black mark against me). I've also reviewed a lot of AfC submissions (a good amount of them sadly don't show in the AfC tool as they were later deleted, but there's still a decent chunk in there), and I almost always provide personalized advice backed with good reasoning when declining. You can find my CSD log here (n. 10, 100% success): User:MolecularPilot/CSD_Log, and I've also created 5 articles (see my user page), 4 of which are B class. Thanks for your time! :) MolecularPilot 🧪️✈️ 05:30, 10 December 2024 (UTC)

My next logical request for permission, one that I don't suppose I can utilize alongside Ultraviolet to stop the bad faith one-timers and vandals where I watch. Although, I must admit, I should simultaneously take care to not get into any content dispute I see; I'll do my best not to get into one this way. This permission will help me in combating vandalism. I’ve been actively patrolling recent changes, always warning users when necessary, assuming good faith, and taking full responsibility for all my edits. I also do crosswiki patrolling and recently joined the SWMT. — Jet Pilot (talk) 21:03, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
Hello! I had been actively patrolling RC in 2023 but paused for a long time since I was too busy. I plan to resume soon and would like rollback rights to make it easier. Note from 07:07, 6 December 2024 (UTC): I had just been informed that RedWarn can be used on a school computer, so it's very likely that I will be using it. xRozuRozu • teacups 23:57, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
I have been reverting vandalism by undoing edits, warning users, and monitoring several pages to keep them protected. Rollback rights would make my efforts faster and more efficient. I am familiar with WP:VANDAL. ZyphorianNexus (talk) 07:15, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
I have been reverting vandalism since I created my account. Although it appears I am a new user, I also have experience editing Wikipedia and reverting vandalism as an IP for many years (which I will not be disclosing due to security concerns). The rollback right will help me revert vandalism faster, which is why I am requesting it. PersonAccount 🐉 (talk) 20:08, 13 December 2024 (UTC)

"Do you want to take a survey?"
editOn Feb. 12, 2005, I did a random pages survey. Out of 100 random pages, only 1 was a U.S. town. That's progress. Three towns in the UK, 1 in Spain and 1 in Portugal also turned up. Overall biographies were the largest category at 22%, followed by geography with 15% total. Then Lists at 7%, Disambiguation pages at 6%.
On Feb. 24, 2006, I repeated the 100 random page survey, this time getting 5 U.S. towns. Overall, geography had 26%, biography 21%, fiction 9%, music 4%, colleges 4%, lists 3% and disambigs 4%. Clearly geography and biography are our largest areas. Music, science and business scored less than I expected. Non-individual History was hardly discernable.
Even by Feb. 2005, 100 out of almost 500,000 was not statistically significant but was as much as I had patience for.
