Editor of the Week, March 2020
editEditor of the Week | ||
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week in recognition of your raising of the profile of Wikipedia in the Indian state of Goa. Thank you for the great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project) |
User:Alarichall submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:
- I nominate Editor Fredericknoronha for his efforts to raise the profile of the Indian state of Goa in Wikipedia, and raising the profile of Wikipedia in the Indian state of Goa. He has made over 3,600 edits to the English Wikipedia and has created 277 articles. While many of his articles are stub- or start-class, it is important to recognise that it is often harder to gather sources and establish notability in India than in countries that have greater internet penetration. We should celebrate editors doing the tricky work of giving due representation to Indian places (such as Shirgao, Goa, Surathkal railway station and International Centre, Goa), people (such as Lancelot Ribeiro, Jayanti Naik, and Isidore Dantas), and culture (such as Goan literature and Goa Arts and Literature Festival). Some of his most substantial articles (such as History of the book in Brazil, Portuguese presence in Asia, Portuguese discovery of the sea route to India, and Churches and convents of Goa) are translations from Portuguese, and we should likewise celebrate his work of mediating knowledge into English and back out into other languages. About a year ago, Fredericknoronha created Wikipedians of Goa User Group, thus moving his efforts beyond editing of his own work towards promoting Wikipedia-editing to the wider community in India. He has also been active in Wikimedia Commons and in Konkani Wikipedia.
