Statement of Notability: William C. Hueston fulfills Wikipedia's notability requirement in 5 different ways. Most obviously, he is a man of many "firsts," in America, being the first African American UChicago Law graduate, being the first African American magistrate in Kansas and Gary, Indiana, being the first African American to hold the position of Assistant Solicitor with the US Post Office. Beyond that, Hueston held many prominent positions in his life: he was the President of the Negro National Baseball League, and he worked in the Hoover administration. Perhaps most notably, he worked within the I. P. B. Order of the Elks for over 40 years. He was a dedicated, extremely well-respected leader in the organization, and is remembered well for his contributions to Education around the country through the Elks Order. He also made significant civil rights contributions: he was an activist in Kansas and Indiana, and he was an important advocate within the Elks Order when he moved to Washington, D. C. Wikipedia's guidelines state that, to warrant an article, the subject must receive significant coverage from notable sources that are independent of the subject. Judge Hueston received very high amounts of media coverage, having over 2,000 newspaper articles written about him throughout his career, which I've been able to access through Georgetown University's Black Studies Center database. Additionally, scholarly books or articles have been published since his death in reference to his baseball connections and other responsibilities. Importantly, all of these sources are completely independent of Hueston, and are all notably reliable. William C. Hueston fulfills Wikipedia's notability requirements through his remarkable life's work and the significant media coverage which that garnered him.
