CONUS in lede
editThe lede states that without the advance bases, CONUS would have been location of naval asset repair and supply. This seems dubious as Hawaii would have been a likely US location for repair/refit of the majority of naval assets, as well as a major supply depot (Red Hill Underground Fuel Storage Facility as just one example). The CRS report doesn't seem to support the statement and I have tagged it accordingly. ☆ Bri (talk) 19:08, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
- The Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard simply didn't have the capacity to perform the "repair/refit of the majority of naval assets". The Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington alone had more repair capacity. Add in Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Hunters Point Naval Shipyard, Long Beach Naval Shipyard, and the U.S. Repair Base, San Diego, all of which remained very busy during World War 2 given the size of the U.S. fleet, and it becomes obvious that the lede is basically true. The Pearl Harbor shipyard was likely reserved for the highest priority repairs, such as the USS Yorktown repairs after the Battle of the Coral Sea, and thus probably did no refit work at all. And BTW, even Pearl Harbor is a great distance from the western Pacific.Tfdavisatsnetnet (talk) 19:37, 4 March 2023 (UTC)
A font of information, but
editThis article is a font of information, but it is somewhat disorganized and there are a few typos. It needs a re-write after a lot of careful consideration.
Also, it states that SeaBees were responsible for the installation of floating dry-docks. I am sure that the large majority of this work was not done by SeaBees.
