Let's make this a good article!
editNow that some time has elapsed since Peter Steele's death and the article has stopped being so frequently edited, it seems like a good time to consider making this an official Wikipedia:Good article. The article has been in decent shape for some time now. I suspect that it will be fairly easy to get it to pass its nomination. I had made some recent tweaks to (hopefully) improve the text. I want to re-read MOS:MUSIC to make sure I'm up-to-date on all the technical formatting concerns. I'm also curious who else is watching this article and is willing to help with the effort. I figure I'll give things a week grace period and then start the review process.
I also archived most of the old discussions to give us a clean talk page to discuss items needed for good article status. Most of the discussions were stale anyhow so it shouldn't be a problem.
Good article status is the first step. I've imagined seeing this article as a featured article for some time. Let's get Type O on the frontpage! If you have interest in making this happen, start by reading up on the Wikipedia:Good article criteria, editing the text, improving references, and so on. We can do it. Jason Quinn (talk) 02:08, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
- I just did a bunch of cleanup. I'm going to go ahead and nominate the article. References can always be improved so if you wish to help make it pass good article review, please focus on improving those. Jason Quinn (talk) 20:59, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
Genre
editJust a quick note about the genre here, nowhere in the article are their cited mentions of the band belonging to any genre. I'd let the gothic metal one slide for now as their's hints of describing that sound, but outside the lead neither doom metal or gothic metal are mentioned. Can anyone clear these up or add valid citations? Andrzejbanas (talk) 19:34, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
Yes. I mentioned it below. Should I delete that one and keep this one? http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/36581414/ns/today-entertainment/t/type-o-negative-frontman-dies/ http://www.cbsnews.com/2100-207_162-6399206.htmlPortlandOregon97217 (talk) 06:24, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
Thrash and doom?
editThey have some doom metal sounds, and a few thrash songs like kill all the white people for example and some stuff from their dead again album and slow deep and hard album if you listen to some of the tracks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheMetallican (talk • contribs) 01:28, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
- Not that I necessarily disagree, that needs a reliable source. Andrzejbanas (talk) 17:20, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
- I heard they were emo, in fact that is why I came here, to check their genre, but there was no mention of it. I know emo sings about similar subject matter ("I hate myself, wish I'd die") but I honestly have no clue what emo really sounds like, I can see gothic metal, but maybe they are just one of those bands that kind of spreads over a bunch of genres. --Billy Nair (talk) 06:06, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
- First time I ever heard someone claim that. Not even close in my opinion. If anything I suspect they'd be insulted. Nowhere in their music do you find that screamy-whiny, pop-influenced sound found is so many emo songs. Jason Quinn (talk) 13:26, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
- You'd have to find a reliable source, but if it helps, I've never seem them classified as that. ever. Andrzejbanas (talk) 13:07, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

Type O is Goth Metal[1] PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 06:21, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
- Type O's style is quite nebulous. My personal opinion is that goth metal is probably the most accurate description but Wikipedia used references from reliable sources for verifiability. I have seen Type O described as goth metal, goth (Jenkins Washington Post review World Coming Down), death metal (Jenkins Washington Post review of October Rust), thrash (Pareles New York Times show review), heavy metal, and just about every combination of this possible. It's all sort of silly to pin them down too much. Jason Quinn (talk) 23:42, 2 November 2012 (UTC)

I don't wanna be me.
editShouldn't there be a page for this? I'm sure it was released as a single. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.160.153.119 (talk) 15:31, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
- No. Generally songs do not warrant an article by themselves even if released as a single. See WP:NSONG. Jason Quinn (talk) 22:53, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
- But it had it's own music video. Surely that makes a diffference. PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 06:28, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
Need help with adding high notability refs
editI have added all the references I can find that are from highly notable sources. This profile of Type O at answers.com gives some references that would be excellent to have in the article but they are behind paywalls and I can't read them. In particular
- Mark Jenkin's review of World Coming Down from Oct 22, 1999 in the Washington Post.
- Rolling Stone, February 23, 1995, p. 74 (are there any more Rolling Stone articles too?)
- Los Angeles Times, February 14, 1997, p. 37; February 22, 1997, p. F, 4:3; July 1, 1997, p. F, 2:3
It really seems that Type O Negative was under-covered by the media in proportion to their success and fanbase. That's unfortunate. If you can help out, I'd appreciate it. Cheers, Jason Quinn (talk) 00:59, 6 October 2012 (UTC)
- I found the Jenkin's article in the Washinton Post (hooray for my library card!). I used it as a source for the goth genre. There wasn't much else there to use in the article. Jason Quinn (talk) 00:00, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
Someone should add a newspaper article/obituary to the appropriate section. Even though we all know Pete is dead we cannot rely on his own band's website for confirmation. needs a good source yes? Is it even apppropriate to link to Type O's own website as a source? PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 10:08, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
- Done. I added a ref to the AP obituary in the New York Times. Jason Quinn (talk) 00:00, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
No Obituary for Pete and okness of using typeonegative.net as a source.
editSomeone should add a newspaper article/obituary to the appropriate section. Could someone plug this in?http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/20/arts/music/20steele.html?_r=0 Even though we all know Pete is dead we cannot rely on his own band's website for confirmation. needs a good source yes? Is it even apppropriate to link to Type O's own website as a source? I'll be making some major edits to that soon unless theres an objection. PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 10:09, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
- Added. Actually I added two versions of this ref. The one you just gave, which was only for the New York Times online, and one for the print edition. Jason Quinn (talk) 00:07, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
- Awesome. Print stands the test of time. PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 06:25, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
Tours
editSo I saw that an ozzfest appearance is the lone tour. I'm proud to say I saw them in Portland in 2008. I forgot the name of the tour or if there was one and i looked it up. the Jagermeister tour with Hatebreed. In fact I left before hatebreed came on because they suck. Kinda insulting that those rookies went on before Type O. Pete was a giant http://www.metalunderground.com/news/details.cfm?newsid=34822 PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 06:04, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
Nativity in Black. Other comments
editI notice the album Type O did the cover of Black Sabbath isn't mentioned by name, and since Nativity in Black has it's own page it seems like a worthy addition to Type O's if someone could hook that up :). I love that song. I notice there's quit a bit of stuffmissing citations. Like the one where it says about them being in Poland for Przystanek Woodstock. I can't find anything for a source and was going to delete if no one objections. PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 06:24, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
citation 13 is dead and 14 links to Type O's own website
editWe gotta root out all those poorly sourced citations. Since Pete was in August 1995 edtition of playgirl cant that be used as a citation?PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 22:25, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
Good article nomination
editI'm going to go ahead and nominate Type O for good article.PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 06:53, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
- It will help to fix some of the references that are bare urls. Jason Quinn (talk) 21:12, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
Gimmicks removal
editIt took me a few years to notice, but I see that the "Gimmicks" section of this article is gone -- why? Was it too poorly sourced? The section regarding the Bensonhoist Lesbian Choir was sourced back to Josh himself.--Perplexed 16:32, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
Phlogiston Verdigris
editThe phrase Phlogiston Verdigris links to this article. Does anybody know why? Who or what is Phlogiston Verdigris? And should it not be mentioned in the article, when the phrase links to it? Krungadoren (talk) 12:47, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
- If I remember correctly, it is the name they called the color green they often used for their artwork. Something like that. It's definitely a Type-O related term. Jason Quinn (talk) 19:15, 16 April 2018 (UTC)

Person who wrote Type O negative songs?
editThe person who is listed as the song writer is Peter Steele and he is a fictional character. Could other band members have contributed to the song writing and put under the name Peter Steele? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.100.46.58 (talk) 19:24, 23 June 2022 (UTC)
Inclusion of Original Sin
editConsidering that Carnivore and Fallout are included on the band's bio Original Sin should be included. Original Sin is the first band that Peter Steele and Josh Silver play together in 1981 they released a 7" 45 on Silver Records in 1982. The songs "Penalty of Love" and "Already Gone" are posted on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/embed/MTyq6zVcUIg) and there's an article on (http://www.groundzero-brooklyn.com/carnivore/fallout.html) that briefly talks about Original Sin. Of notable inclusion is the fact that this is how Josh met his first wife Cheryl Alter who is the lead singer of Original Sin. Cheryl Alter happens to also be the sister of Debbie Alter who is the credited backup singer for several Type O Negative songs. Original Sin: Cheryl Alter vocals. Josh Silver Keyboards. Doug Odom on drums and John Campos on Guitar. (https://www.discogs.com/release/4146799-Original-Sin-Original-Sin)
When Original Sin and Fallout break up; Peter goes on to form Carnivore with Josh Silver, Louie Beato. John Campos is invited to join but unable to join Carnivore due to starting his recording company. Hyvercat (talk) 23:47, 29 May 2023 (UTC)
