Requested move 27 January 2025

edit

Later note: Now that this has been moved to the talk page of the article, it is requested that Philip Key (American politician)Philip Key. The article for Philip Key was recently moved from its title that it had held since 2006. There are three Philip Keys who were American politicians, so the current disambiguator is not sufficient. As this Philip Key is the only one with the specific name, the Philip Key disambiguation page should be moved to Philip Key (disambiguation). Aneirinn (talk) 19:03, 3 February 2025 (UTC) (edited) This is a contested technical request (permalink). 162 etc. (talk) 17:29, 27 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Note: this request has been fixed for the RMCD bot. Let me know if something else is needed. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 22:55, 27 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Does Sahaib want to comment? Cremastra (talk) 23:05, 25 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Aneirinn: @Cremastra: it was not a controversial move, "American" is used in the disambiguation of titles not "U.S.", see for example this discussion. Sahaib (talk) 23:13, 25 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
It is an undiscussed move. The article has had that disambiguator since 2006. That discussion from 2017 did not get much input from the community. "U.S. politician" is a useful disambiguator for national-level politicians from the United States, especially when there are other state-level politicians of the same name (although that would not apply in this particular case). "American politician" is clearly the correct term here, so oppose this. And I see "U.S politician" as still a partial disambiguation if there are state-level politicians of the same name. That said, Sahaib, it's poor form to do a move and then immediately make an edit to the redirect left behind from that move as doing so makes it impossible for others to revert cleanly and hence breaks WP:BRD - I would suggest not doing so. * Pppery * it has begun... 06:46, 26 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
I'd actually be in favour of Philip Key. The other two, Philip Barton Key and Philip Barton Key II are not commonly known as "Philip Key"; unambiguous. 162 etc. (talk) 22:43, 26 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
I would be in favor of this as well. The others are commonly known by their full names. The current disambiguation page Philip Key should be moved to Philip Key (disambiguation) with the current Philip Key (American politician) taking its place. Aneirinn (talk) 00:05, 27 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Aneirinn "American politician" has the overwhelming consensus. There are 452 existing articles with that in the title, excluding redirects, compared to 9 for "U.S. politician". --Ahecht (TALK

I would agree with it. This article should be need to discuss fully at the article's talk page and we could DAB page Philip Key at regular RM. 103.111.100.82 (talk) 03:51, 27 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Now that the requested move has been added to the talk page, I have changed it from Philip Key (American politician) → Philip Key (U.S. politician) to Philip Key (American politician) → Philip Key. Aneirinn (talk) 18:54, 27 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
