Jimmy was a stripper

edit

One of you wiki experts fix this, but he did state on Bill O'Reilly that he was a former stripper. http://www.mediaite.com/tv/rent-is-too-damn-high-guy-makes-shocking-revelation-on-oreilly-im-a-former-stripper/ -- the article just needs the citation/reference,. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.113.216.234 (talk) 10:12, 11 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

The rent is too damn high.

This is why wikipedia is awesome. It has had an article on this guy for some time, and I was immediately able to find out his background.--Milowenttalkblp-r 14:09, 19 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

How do ya'll know he's a "Karate Expert?" Because he says so? Personally I'd like to see some credentials! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.243.27.13 (talk) 07:05, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

This Village Voice article has plenty more info on this individual, but I don't want to start hacking apart this article to include it. Quotes from YouTube

edit

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4o-TeMHys0

Introduction: "I represent The Rent Is Too Damn High Party. People are working 8 hours a day and 40 hours a week and some a third job. Women can't afford to take care of their children, feed their children breakfast, lunch and dinner. My main job is to provide a roof over your head, food on the table and money in your pocket. This is politics as usual, playing the silly game, and this is not gonna happen. The Rent Is Too Damn High Movement people I'm here to represent can't afford to pay their rent. They're being laid off right now as I speak. They can't eat any breakfast, lunch or dinner. Listen! Someone's stomach, still a child's stomach just growled. Did you hear it? You got to listen like me. Let's talk about the issue. People can't afford to pay the rent. Stop. The rent is too damn high."

On negative campaigning: "As a karate expert, I will not talk about anyone up here because our children can't afford to live anywhere. Nowhere, there's nowhere to go. Once again: why? ... You said it. The rent is too damn high."

On (gay) marriage: "The Rent Is Too Damn High Party believes that if you want to marry a shoe, I'll marry you." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.171.26.59 (talk) 18:40, 20 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Unprofessional Style

edit

This article is in great need of review. The style of the article is narrative and suggests a bias, as opposed to the objective style standard on Wikipedia. 24.124.70.248 (talk) 21:47, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

I agree. This page has certainly taken off after his debate appearance. It can use a pruning. --Muboshgu (talk) 21:48, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Debate Appearance

edit

I think that it is appropriate to mention the fact that McMillan significantly increased the visibility of his campaign through his appearance in the debate. Other debates, such as those for Governor and US Senate in Arizona, featured minor party candidates, but none of them made the kind of impact that McMillan did. I think it is appropriate to note this in the article.Iloveapphysics (talk) 18:11, 25 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

If you can find a reliable source saying so, by all means include it.--TM 18:36, 25 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
[1][2][3][4][5][6] Are these reliable sources? Iloveapphysics (talk) 18:54, 25 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Regardless of what exactly the sources say, there's guidelines for how it goes into a Wikipedia article to maintain WP:NPOV. --Muboshgu (talk) 19:52, 25 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
I was trying to bring to light his standout debate performance. Is there a better way to say this than "Dominated by McMillan and the other minor party candidates"? Iloveapphysics (talk) 22:24, 25 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
The reason I deleted it, Physics, was because I thought it was POV. I also wouldn't call it "standout" Purplebackpack89 19:47, 26 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
I was just trying to note the fact that he gained a great deal of attention after his debate appearance. There wouldn't be anywhere close to the amount of coverage and interest for his current campaign if it weren't for his performance at the debate. He has ran for office in the past and failed to receive this kind of coverage, and the difference between those times and now is the fact that he had such a "standout" performance at the debate. Is there a better (more NPOV) way to indicate the fact that he gained such notoriety after his debate appearance? Iloveapphysics (talk) 15:27, 27 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Something like "McMillan's campaign/candidacy gained significant press coverage after the debate" Purplebackpack89 15:39, 27 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
OK, I changed it. Thanks for the help. Iloveapphysics (talk) 16:29, 27 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure that's a reliable source Purplebackpack89 17:07, 27 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
WP:SELFPUB is the relevant part of policy, in which case we need to decide whether "the material is not unduly self-serving" before including it. Personally, I'd say one sentence by him at an election debate isn't sufficient to say he is a karate expert and we would need a third party source to confirm it. Smartse (talk) 18:44, 27 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
why dont we just put in that he says hes a karate expert? Aisha9152 (talk) 04:35, 28 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
We could maybe do that, but can you find any over coverage it beyond that single quote? Smartse (talk) 10:20, 28 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
its hard because everyone is mentioning that one quote. if we dont put it in the RIGHT way i think people are going to keep putting it in the wrong way. Aisha9152 (talk) 21:18, 28 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Huh? Not sure I get what you mean. The article is semi-protected at the moment so only experienced editors are able to edit it and they should hopefully do so if they have a decent source for it, which seemingly there isn't so it should stay out of the article. Nicknames

edit
  • I tried to get the ball rolling on a general cleanup of the article by rearranging the introductory paragraph and cleaning up the infobox. It shouldn't be necessary for me to start pulling supporting documentation for the reasons behind my having moved the otherwise ancillary list of nicknames that are in the introductory section. I recommend a further cleanup of the article, and some additional sources wouldn't hurt either. bwmcmaste (talk) 06:46, 18 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Passive voice

edit

"McMillan was at one point tied to a tree and doused with gasoline" -- by whom, for crying out loud, and for what purpose? As a publicity stunt? Did he only escape a lynching by the skin of his teeth? The squirrelly use of the passive voice here allows both interpretations.Benami (talk) 22:10, 8 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Facial hair enthusiast? Really?

edit

I don't know about you, but when I read that, I laughed out loud, and expected it to be vandalism, but apparently it isn't... Is there a significant, important reason we would call McMilllan a "facial hair enthusiast?" Because that laundry list of things McMillan does in his spare time is a little too lengthy ... -Panther (talk) 23:18, 16 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I cannot think of a "significant, important reason" to put that in the lead paragraph. It's good for a laugh, but last time I checked, wikipeda was't a humor site.--Dwc89 (talk) 15:19, 17 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Laws influenced by Christianity?

edit

I removed (or tried to remove; we'll see) this bullet point section from the political positions section:

  • McMillan supports allowing laws to be influenced by Christianity. His website states that "we need more reliance on the moral laws brought by religion and not limit out goodwill to our neighbors and co-workers to what the law demands alone." He also spoke of "restoring family values" and ensuring that one parent remains at home to watch children.[1]

Neither the quote nor the linked source seems to support the assertion that "McMillan supports allowing laws to be influenced by Christianity." In the quote, he seems to be saying that we should follow moral laws set by God that go beyond what the formal statutory law of the state demands. That's not the same thing as saying that statutory law should be influenced by Christianity. It's also not a particularly controversial or interesting position: most people think that morality requires one to do things about which the law is silent. In the source, he's explaining how he's not anti-Semitic, or apologizing for seeming anti-Semitic. He does not offer this quote as part of a formal platform, and I think it would be a mistake to read it as a political position.2601:47:4200:542:CAF7:33FF:FE77:D800 (talk) 14:27, 19 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
