Everyone's a Lesbian!
editSomething I think is worthy of mention is that wherever Jane's life takes her, there are ALWAYS Lesbians (I can't tell if this is Paige Braddock's way of "turning the tables" on the way gay women perceive the world, in which the majority of people they encounter are straight, or simply to remind everyone that if you pick any random group, you are likely to find some gay people).
Jane is kidnapped by aliens? Yup, one of the technicians in the spaceship is a Lesbian. Jane is stranded on a desert island with Chelle and Jill and encounter rather aggressive natives? Yup, it's the chief and his wife, looking for a woman to marry their Lesbian daughter -- and Jane has to battle it out with the daughter's former female lover to see who gets to marry the daughter. And so on and so forth.
Similarly, the straight people encountered in the strip are always, well shall we say a bit "extravagant" in their sexual mores. Jane's straight sister is enamored of a fellow who likes to dress up as a Viking, something the sister seems to find quite, um, "inspiring". Ethan is famously inept in his search for a soul mate (or even just a roll in the hay).
Here too, the idea seems to be to "turn the tables" on straights who think that gays are "unusual", by making the straights in the strip seem even more "out of the ordinary".
If Ms. Braddock is reading this, I'd sure be interested to hear her take on this.Partnerfrance (talk) 11:02, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
