There should be a way to avoid having those redlinks in English - as probably not needed do you think? cannot remember how offhand. Or is there anything we could redirect to?

- @HouseOfChange: Duh obviously I was subconsciously looking for "QPQ". Hope I have not messed anything up with my tweaks - please could you check. Do you happen to know whether the Tanzanian govt has given permission yet? If they definitely have not we could add the lack of it to the hook to nudge them. Everything looks fine - approved. Translating French terms in the article
editI started to create this article because JC won a Niels Bohr Medal of Honor but had no article in en-wiki. I wikilinked to a couple of articles in fr-wiki, which created ugly apparent redlinks. Before I remove them, I want to preserve them here: maybe they should be footnotes instead?
- When Google Translate said that JC's CNRS position was "director of research," I first thought JC was the head of CNRS research. Not so! "Directeur de recherche" is French officialese for a senior researcher, see Chercheur des établissements publics scientifiques#Directeur de recherche).
- If you are sure (otherwise maybe you could drop an email to CNRS to check?) as well as doing a footnote if easy to do please could you put a note on Google Translate as https://translate.google.com.tr/?sl=auto&tl=en&text=Directeur%20de%20recherche%20&op=translate says "This translation was marked as correct by Google Translate users." So the quotes in cites 2 and 3 need changing I guess.
- @Chidgk1: I did research at CNRS org chart and elsewhere to understand JC's role. The problem is not with a "lower-case" "directeur de recherche," which Google Translate is correct to translate as someone who directs research. But fr-wiki explains at more length than I think we need to in this article that this is also a job title with a specific meaning by French public institutions. I don't think it is misleading to use the translations "research scientist" or "a research director," to make clear that he holds one of multiple senior research positions at CNRS. Words are tricky and hopefully it will make us laugh rather than cry that a "chemical engineer" is not chemical in the same way a "chemical spill" is chemical, and also probably cannot drive a train. - This may not need to be a footnote at all, but a French (conseil d'administration) is basically an English "board of directors." HouseOfChange (talk) 20:56, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
