Request for Comment: Picture of newscrews

edit

In this and other Calgary station articles, I have placed an image I took of a local TV or radio station news (or entertainment) crew covering a local event, or TV personalities making an appearance. I feel strongly that such local news/affairs coverage, and event hosting, is a defining characteristic of a local station, forming most of what they're known for. I realize my images are not professional quality, and welcome their replacement with better images. But, without a better image, I feel some reasonable/relevant image is better than none. I think these are more than just decorations. I think generally such an image is good for a typical local station. Of course, being my images, maybe I'm bias, and I welcome other views. Since a couple editors have removed some as "purely decoration", I would like the opinions of others, before any more are removed or re-added. --Rob (talk) 22:05, 1 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Just for the record, the issue with Wikipedia not allowing "purely decorative" images applies to images uploaded under fair use — it is not a valid reason to remove an image that was uploaded under GFDL or Creative Commons by the image's own photographer. So it's not a valid basis for removing the images. Some might be better included on the article about the individual personality depicted in the photo instead of here, but that's a separate issue from whether the images are "decorative" or not.
