Summary

http://www.courses.fas.harvard.edu/~chaucer/canttales/sirthop/hoccport.htm archive copy at the Wayback Machine Portrait of Chaucer by Thomas Hoccleve in the Regiment of Princes (1412). Hoccleve claimed to have personally known Chaucer. Although this claim cannot be proven, the fact that many of Hoccleve's intended audience of courtly patrons would have seen Chaucer argues for Hoccleve's intention to provide an accurate portrait. From London, British Library, Harley 4866, f.88.
