Future Bayside, Queens photo

edit

I see you've created a subcategory for images of Bayside, Queens. If one of them gets transferred from the main Wikipeida page, I'd suggest adding the one I've got in the Bayside (LIRR station) article. ----DanTD 22:14, 28 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I deleted this image you uploaded, as while it is suitably licenced on flickr, the picture appeared to be a photo, which hold their copyright for the life of the author plus 70 years, so unless we know that the photographer died by 1938, the image would not be eligible for public domain, and so it is unlikely that the flickr user has the rights to release it.

If you have any information on this, please contact me and I'll undelete if necessary. -mattbuck (Talk) 08:48, 29 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Thanks for your work. Just to say... they are text tag again. :) ~ bayo or talk 07:54, 27 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Another little thing, some icons use transparent as while, but some other just use white. Maybe its better to do the same for all. ~ bayo or talk 08:13, 27 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think I will make everything transparent. I didn't do that with a few them cause it would require me to convert the shapes to outline path which makes the file bigger and less editable. --Voidvector (talk) 08:36, 27 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Tip: Categorizing images

Hello, Voidvector!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

File:PEGI Bad language old.svg

edit

File:PEGI Bad language old.svg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Autopatrolled rights given

edit

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. - FitIndia Talk Mail 11:33, 5 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Splicing of Two Names?

edit

Hey, in the description of [1] you mention a "Quanshuigou". However, the pinyin of the Chinese character title would give us Quanshuihu and Sirengou but no Quanshuigou. Was this an error? Is this what the original uploader described the image as? --Geographyinitiative (talk) 11:40, 23 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Geographyinitiative 泉水沟 (Quanshuigou) is a common alias/typo in Chinese as well. See [2] [3] [4] --Voidvector (talk) 04:26, 8 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Voidvector,
Thank you for your contributions to Commons. I noticed File:G219边的果只岗日峰.jpg is out of date. Local language name of 果只岗日峰 needed; see also File talk:G219边的果只岗日峰.jpg. Could you update it? Thanks again.----If you don't have any info on this, just leave the update request on the page until someone can find this info. Thanks for your work. Extent of Aksai Chin

edit

How big is Aksai Chin? Are there parts of Aksai Chin under Indian control? I ask because the Wiktionary definition of Aksai Chin and the Wikipedia definition of Aksai Chin both make it seem that 100% of Aksai Chin is administered by China today(behind the LAC), but this 2008 Gazetteer by a respected geographer seems to say that the region is divided between China and India. I ask you because I feel like you might be able to shed light on this. Check this out:

  • Page 52, column 1 (my bolding): "Aksai Chin (ahk-SEI chin), cold desert plain (13,900 sq mi/36,140 sq km), falling to the NE part of jammu AND KASHMIR State, extreme N inp1A, bordered NE by XINJIANG AUTONOMOUS REGION (CHINA) and SE by TIBET (China), divided between India and China, but Chinese section claimed by India. Bordered N by KUNLUN MOUNTAINS. Barren and uninhabitable. Earlier Indian claim to the area disputed by China, which built (1956-1957) a road across it between Xinjiang and Tibet. The subsequent Sino-Indian fighting (1959, 1962) over the area resulted in Chinese occupation of 5,985 sq mi/15,500 sq km."

@Geographyinitiative, you raise a good point. I don't have an opinion on this either way. Getting the "precise" definition would require us to have an agreed upon boundary for the geomorphic/topographical entity of Aksai Chin, which we don't have. --Voidvector (talk) 21:31, 12 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
