Carry On is a song by Avenged Sevenfold that appears in a non-canonical epilogue in Call of Duty: Black Ops II after the credits and was originally going to be used as the musical easter egg for the Zombies map TranZit. It is performed by M. Shadows, Synyster Gates, Zacky Vengeance, Johnny Christ and Arin Ilejay, with Raul Menendez and Frank Woods making a visual appearance in the epilogue, in Club Solar at the end of the campaign when the player finishes the last mission, "Judgement Day."
In the non-canonical epilogue, Menendez is seen slowly approaching Woods in the backstage of a small arena, with audience heard cheering in the background. Woods demonstrates him a drum pattern, and Menendez is holding a guitar, saying he's nervous about going on stage. As Woods is calming him down, M. Shadows and Synyster Gates come in and yell at Menendez, pressuring him into not failing. Shadows acts much friendlier towards Woods, and after being asked if he's ready, he springs up standing from his wheelchair, explaining he's merely too lazy to walk. Gates slaps Menendez before they walk out to the stage. As the song starts, Woods is seen playing the drums and Menendez is playing the guitar along with the rest of the band (excluding Arin Ilejay, who is replaced by Woods). During the song, a montage of the game's story is seen on a display behind the band, with clips occasionally also appearing full-screen of several missions such as Old Wounds and Achilles' Veil. Several characters are also seen within the audience in humorous appearances, as listed:
- Alex Mason is seen dancing with Viktor Reznov. When the scene cuts back to Mason, Reznov disappeared, and Mason starts to look around in confusion.
- David Mason is seen waving around a Cordis Die sign.
- Mike Harper is seen doing an air guitar with Javier Salazar, Officer Jannsen, and Officer Barnes dancing in the background.
- Jason Hudson can briefly be seen next to a rail with David Petraeus.
- Admiral Briggs and General Zhao are dancing together and hi-fiving with Crosby and a construction worker in the background.
- Karma and DeFalco are seen dancing together with Erik Breighner and Noriega dancing nearby.
- President Bosworth, Agent Johnson, and Captain Anderson are seen dancing.
- A Zombie can be seen alone on the lightened catwalk above the stage.
Lyrics[]
Some people live that selfish desire
Some choose to shout when they speak and they’ll be the start
Caught in the flame of those deep in fire
Seeking out those with a voice
One for tomorrow
They say we've lost our minds, we've just gained control
Search endlessly, fight till we’re free
Fly past the edge of the sea
No bending knee, no mockery
Somehow we still carry on
(Fear, fear, fear, fear, fear, fear)
Silence your fear, we've got to move higher
Unlock the stars in the sky
Guiding us all
Battle the will of those who conspire
Take back the passion to live, vanish the sorrow
Destroy their perfect crime, watch the power fold
Search endlessly, fight till we're free
Fly past the edge of the sea
No bending knee, no mockery
Somehow we still carry on
Search endlessly, fight till we’re free
Fly past the edge of the sea
No bending knee, no mockery
Somehow we still carry on
Carry on
