Carob (Japanese: たつき Tatsuki) is a character in the Magical Pokémon Journey manga.

History

Carob is first introduced while he is taking Gramps to visit Mandy at the Lone Star Tree. He meets Peanut, who sends his Charmander to help him find his way there. As they travel, Carob happily cares for Gramps's needs.

After being driven off a cliff by an overexcited Gramps, Carob is rescued by Tamarind, who befriends him and points him to the Lone Star Tree. There, he witnesses Gramps's reunion with Mandy's spirit. Sometime later, Carob decides to return with Gramps to the tree, bringing along a bouquet of flowers for Tamarind.

In Volume 7's "Pokémon File!", Yumi Tsukirino reveals that Carob gets his Japanese name from her friend's child. The same is true for Tamarind.

Gramps (Japanese: じーじ Gramps) is Carob's only known Pokémon. His given name is Cyrus, but he is affectionately called Gramps, as he has been a member of Carob's family for a long time. Gramps was friends with Mandy and had promised to meet her at the Lone Star Tree long ago. He has become senile in his old age, but he is capable of "soul traveling," a trick that allows him to move without his physical form.
