Hyrule Compendium Entry
The Lightscale Trident is a variant of the Zora Spear used by the Zora Champion Mipha before her death during the Great Calamity.[1] It belongs to the Zora Gear equipment archetype, which is a group of Weapons created by the Zora.[3] Even though Mipha preferred to use her healing abilities, it is said that she was talented with this Spear as well.[1] King Dorephan had the story of the Lightscale Trident written on the History of the Zora, Part Four, one of the Stone Monuments found throughout the Lanayru Great Spring. The Lightscale Trident was made as a gift for Mipha by Dento to celebrate her birth.[4] Seggin was the one who taught Mipha her skill with the Trident.[5]
When Mipha did not return after the Great Calamity, the people of Zora's Domain mourned her. They tried to send the Lightscale Trident down Zora River in an attempt to put her Spirit to rest.[6] However, the Trident began to glow, and Mipha's voice was heard.[7] She told the Zora that she was one with the Lightscale Trident, and they should forget their grief and focus on remembering her.[8] As a result, the Zora celebrate the Champion Festival and honor the Lightscale Trident on the anniversary of the Great Calamity.[9]
However, if Link speaks with Trello while "The Ceremonial Song" Shrine Quest is active, he will admit that the Champion Festival uses a replica of the Lightscale Trident instead of the real one.[10][11] This replica, the Ceremonial Trident, is nearly identical to the Lightscale Trident, but it is not as strong or durable.[12]
Link can obtain the Lightscale Trident after taming Divine Beast Vah Ruta and saving Zora's Domain from flooding. King Dorephan will gift the Trident to him as a reward and symbol of their friendship.[13] After the cutscene, Link can collect the Lightscale Trident from inside a Treasure Chest in the Throne Room. If the Lightscale Trident breaks, Dento will remake it if Link approaches him at the Hammerhead.[14] To do so, he requires a Zora Spear, a Diamond, and five pieces of Flint.[15]
The Lightscale Trident is made of metal, and therefore it can conduct Electricity and attract Lightning if it is equipped during Thunderstorms. It will also sink if it is dropped in Water, but it can be picked up using the Magnesis Rune on the Sheikah Slate. Finally, it will not burn if it is exposed to a Fire or a Scorching Climate.
Other Appearances[]
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity[]
The Lightscale Trident makes an appearance in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, where Mipha is its sole user. She often uses it in cutscenes where she is fighting, such as when she protects Sidon from a Lynel and in the stand against the Yiga Clan at a small town. She also wields it as she prepares to attack Monster on her way to Hyrule Castle. She uses the Lightscale Trident against Waterblight Ganon within Divine Beast Vah Ruta.
