"Destroy Ganon" is a Main Quest in Breath of the Wild.[1]

Overview[]

Link receives this Main Quest from King Rhoam after learning of the events 100 years ago. Though he is ashamed that he could not save his own kingdom,[2] King Rhoam asks that Link save Princess Zelda and do whatever it takes to annihilate Calamity Ganon.[3] The Quest begins alongside "Seek Out Impa" once King Rhoam fades away.

At any time, Link can choose to infiltrate Hyrule Castle. Calamity Ganon can be found in Ganon's Cocoon inside the Sanctum. If they have not yet been defeated, Link will be forced to fight Windblight Ganon, Waterblight Ganon, Fireblight Ganon, and Thunderblight Ganon one by one. Once Link has defeated them, or if they have already been defeated, he will hear the voice of Zelda calling out to him.[4] She informs him that her power is giving out and she can no longer hold back Ganon.[5]

A Guardian laser erupts from the Cocoon, wildly shooting around the Sanctum. The Cocoon explodes, and Calamity Ganon falls through the Sanctum's floor and into the Astral Observatory. Link glides down with the Paraglider, landing right in front of Ganon.

If Link has calmed any of the Divine Beasts, the Champions will begin their attack on Calamity Ganon. Revali announces that his moment for revenge has finally come for revenge, launching a laser from Divine Beast Vah Medoh.[6] Mipha says that this is her and Divine Beast Vah Ruta's final opportunity and they will not fail, just as Vah Ruta fires its laser.[7] Daruk cheers Link on and tells Ganon to open wide, directing Divine Beast Vah Rudania to fire its own attack.[8] Urbosa, atop Divine Beast Vah Naboris, notes that this moment is 100 years in the making, and she warns Zelda to hold on as she snaps her fingers and activates the laser.[9] The Divine Beasts' blue beams flood into the Astral Observatory, raining upon Calamity Ganon. For each Divine Beast that has been reclaimed, one-eighth of Ganon's health will be depleted.

After Link has defeat Calamity Ganon's second form, it flees from the Astral Observatory. A golden light encompasses Link and teleports him to Windvane Meadow with his Horse.[note 1] As the Malice swirls, Princess Zelda repeats the history of Calamity Ganon, saying he was born out of a dark past and is an ancient evil that is reborn time and time again.[10] Assuming the form of Dark Beast Ganon, he has given up on reincarnation.[11] If he is allowed to go free, the destruction would be unlike anything seen before.[12]

To face Dark Beast Ganon, Princess Zelda entrusts Link with the Bow of Light.[13] She notes that while Link may not yet have recovered all of his strength or his memories,[14] he does not need to have remembered his courage, since he never forgot it.[15]

With the Malice covering Dark Beast Ganon's body, Link's attacks are unable to harm him.[16] Princess Zelda will attempt to hold it back as much as she can, instructing Link to attack any glowing points.[17][18] As Link continues to circle and shoot at Ganon, Zelda notes that his power is weakening.[19][20] When all of the glowing spots have been shot, an eye appears on Dark Beast Ganon's head, the core of his being.[21][22] When Link flies up into the air with his Paraglider, Zelda commands him to shoot now.[23]

Once Link shoots the eye, Dark Beast Ganon stuggles as Princess Zelda suddenly emerges from inside him. When she lands on the ground, she begins to use her power to seal him away. He transforms back into his pig-like cloud form as he tries to flee and fight against Zelda. She catches it in an expanding ball of light, which disappears quickly, sealing Calamity Ganon away. With this, the Main Quest is completed.
