As a Green Lantern, Guy Gardner has a love of justice and the ability to overcome fear with willpower.[3]
Physical appearance[]
Guy is a muscular Caucasian male with short red hair and green eyes. He wears black pants and a black sleeveless shirt with a green front. The symbol of the Green Lantern Corps is featured in the middle. He wears black fingerless gloves, and like other Green Lanterns, has a Green power ring.
History[]
Early life[]
Guy became a Lantern in 2003, but was incapacitated and ended up in a coma. He did not wake until March 2010.[4]
Guy Gardner was considered for membership during the meeting of the Justice League, but the two other Lanterns, Hal Jordan and John Stewart, were quick to veto it.[6]
Shortly before December 1, 2015, he encountered the new Blue Beetle. He reported his opinions on the young hero to Nightwing, and had to begrudgingly admit he liked the new hero.[8]
During a mission briefing John Stewart mentioned that Guy and Hal Jordan were on the Green Lantern home world of Oa.[9]
Before the Justice League departed for trial on Rimbor, John Stewart said that Hal and Guy went ahead to the planet to prepare it for the League's arrival, and to impress upon its leaders that the Guardians of the Universe expected a fair trial.[10]
The League finally arrived at Mount Justice, with Guy Gardner among them. The mountain was in ruins, and Superman wondered whether they were already too late in dealing with the invasion that embroiled the Earth before and during their absence. Members of the Team descended from the heavens, acting as a welcoming committee. Batman asked Aqualad, who in their last meeting was still a traitor, what happened there. Aqualad reassured them that the crisis has passed, but not without loss.[11]
Guy Gardner joined Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Superman, and Captain Marvel in escorting the Reach flagship away from the United Nations building and into space. Upon leaving the Earth's atmosphere, the Green Lanterns accompanied the Reach fleet remnants towards Oa, where they would stand trial before the Guardians of the Universe.[11]
Gardner joined a contingent of Leaguers investigating an attack on an Nth Metal refinery. While the other Leaguers argued with Hro Talak, he scanned the area with his ring and detected an ion trail. They left to follow the trail, bot not before Gardner insulted Talak with a rude construct.[14]
As the Javelin opened fire on the Orphanage, Gardner created a shield to protect it from enemy fire. Later, he saw the squad sent to infiltrate the station boom tubed into open space, and quickly created an atmospheric bubble around them. His boasting was cut short as the Orphanage disappeared through a massive boom tube.[14]
Guy joined the other Earth Lanterns in leading a Justice League attack on the Orphanage. The whole group was caught in the Ghost Dimension created by Granny Goodness and placed under the influence of the Anti-Life Equation.[15]
Under Granny's control, Guy was among the Leaguers deployed to stop members of the Team from rescuing Halo and stopping Granny. The Team was placed under Granny's control as well.[15]
Guy and the rest were present as Granny and Gretchen Goode merged back together, and Vic Stone arrived to free Halo, who freed the League and Team in turn. They destroyed Granny's Ghost Dimension device, with Guy and the other Lanterns shielding everyone from the resulting explosion. He then helped capture Granny's minions.[16]
Guy was the spokesman for the contingent of Leaguers on the Javelin conferencing into a meeting of the League, the Team, the Outsiders and Batman's team. He was part of the unanimous vote to elect Black Lightning as the League's new leader.[17]
Equipment[]
Like all Green Lanterns, Guy Gardner derives his powers from his Green power ring.
Power ring: The power ring is capable of creating whatever the user thinks through pure will. All Green Lanterns cover themselves in a green aura which gives them the ability of flight.
Guy Gardner was the second relief Lantern for Hal Jordan, summoned when John Stewart was down. He was one of two people selected by Abin Sur for replacement, but Hal Jordan was closer. This did not sit well with Gardner, who would repeatedly declare himself the best Lantern.
This marks Guy Gardner's third animated appearance, having appeared in Duck Dodgers and several episodes of Batman: The Brave and the Bold.
