What is this article arguing?
[edit]Is this article calling into question whether or not he received a medal from the Nazis? Cullen328 Let's discuss it 00:04, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
- Here is another item, a blog post perhaps, that seems to offer a different interpretation. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 00:10, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
- It's interesting: people always point to Salazar's friendship with Amzalak as "proof" that Salazar was not anti-Semitic. Some choice of Jew! Here's a curious little 6 minute mini-documentary (in English) on Amzalak, featuring prominent members of Lisbon's Jewish community, plus the journalist Antonio Louça who uncovered this embarrassing history, plus Manuela Franco, Director of the Portuguese Foreign Ministry Archives. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RcQ_WzmvLA It's such a bizarre story--I can't even get my head around it. Beebop211 (talk) 00:21, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
- Personally I think that Louca’s book is an attempt to denigrate Amazalk. Milgram also supports Amzalak here [[1]]and also in his 2011 book. I've included the episode because I wanted to edit NPOV. (and also because Beebop211 would do it anyway)
- I will not comment Beebop211 customary extremist viewsJPratas (talk) 00:45, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
- Both articles included by Cullen do support Amzalak. The first, refutes the medal, but is from a non-credible newspaper. I will further investigate this.JPratas (talk) 00:45, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
- I'm a big fan of Louça's work and think his research is outstanding. It's very easy to believe the story of the Nazi medal once you see the pro-Nazi pages of O Seculo under Amzalak's leadership. It's mindboggling to me. I really don't get it. Anyway, nice to speak to you about something OTHER than Sousa Mendes for a change! Beebop211 (talk) 00:51, 16 March 2014 (UTC) This piece by Louça and Schäfer stopped me in my tracks: http://www.yadvashem.org/odot_pdf/Microsoft%20Word%20-%202304.pdf. Did you know that Portugal was one of only two countries, the other being Switzerland, that was richer after WWII than it was before? Beebop211 (talk) 00:54, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Antonio Louça and Amzalak
[edit]Antonio Louça is a member of the Portuguese section of the Fourth International and a journalist on “Combate”. He is a member of the national leadership of the Left Bloc and brother of Francisco Louca the Left Bloc leader. The Fourth International (FI), founded in 1938, is the communist international organization consisting of followers of Leon Trotsky (Trotskyists). The Left Bloc is Portuguese left-wing political party often listed as radical and voted 5% in the last elections. He dedicates his life to denigrate people such as Amazalak.
Although he is a radical and not very representative of mainstream views I don’t object to have his POV included in the article on Amzalak. And as one of those “who wish to sing the praises of Aristides de Sousa Mendes” he also has a place in the Mendes’ article.
I am not surprised Beebop211 is big fan of Louça's work and thinks his research is outstanding. But this tells a lot about his fierce battle on the Arisitedes Sousa Mendes in order to end up with a POV and not with a NPOV.
I am not criticizing Antonio Louca nor am I criticizing his political views. The wikipedia is not a space for ideological disputes nor am I interested in having one. The above paragraphs are just meant to alert to the weight that should be given to the point of views Louça defends.
I would like to see from Beebop211 a clear acceptance of NPOV in the Mendes’ article in the exact same way that is being done in this article.

Louca on Zionism
[edit]To have a better idea of Louca’s views you might want to try to read a translation of this article from Louca.
[[4]]
He says that the ethnic cleaning that Zionism is doing against Palestinians is similar to what the Nazis have done in the 30s.JPratas (talk) 18:06, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
"A limpeza étnica que o sionismo realiza contra os palestinos é em tudo semelhante à limpeza étnica que o nazismo realizou nos anos 30 contra os judeus, quando ainda não era evidente que iria dedicar-se a exterminá-los."

removed sentence with inflammatory wording
[edit]Cullen328 Could you please confirm that his "inflammatory" Amzalak 's defense by Milgram really needs to be removed? I am refering to Beebop211's deletion.
