Mika Stojsavljevic (Serbian: Мика Стојсављевић, Mika Stojsavljević; born 15 December 2008) is a British tennis player. She won the girls' singles title at the 2024 US Open.
Early life
[edit]Stojsavljevic was born to a Serbian father from Velika Popina in Croatia and a Polish mother from Warsaw.[1] She was raised in Ealing, where she attended St Benedict's School. She later trained at the LTA national academy in Loughborough.[1][2][3] She attends Loughborough Amherst School.[4] Growing up, she idolised Maria Sharapova.[5]
Career

[edit]2023: Wimbledon Girls singles quarter-final
[edit]In April 2023, she reached the final of the LTA national junior championships where she lost to Hannah Klugman.[6][7]
Competing as a 14 year-old at the Girls' singles of the 2023 Wimbledon Championships, Stojsavljevic secured a big win over the fourth seed and French Open junior finalist Lucciana Pérez Alarcón, and Australian 14th seed Emerson Jones, reaching the quarter-finals.[8][9]
2024: US Open Girls singles title, Wimbledon Girls doubles final
[edit]In April 2024, Stojsavljevic and Mimi Xu paired up to win 6–2, 1–6, 12–10 over Flora Johnson & Allegra Korpanec Davies in the girls doubles at the U18 Junior Nationals Championship. On the same day, Xu defeated Stojsavljevic in the semi finals of the girls singles.[10] In June 2024, playing alongside Xu, Stojsavljevic reached the final of the girls' doubles at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, after a win over top seeds and defending champions, Alena Kovackova and Laura Samson in the quarter-finals and a straight sets win over Julia Stusek and Julie Pastikova in the semi final.[11][12] In the final they lost on a championship tie break to Tyra Caterina Grant and Iva Jovic of the United States.[13]
Alongside Mingge Xu she reached the quarter-finals of the Girls' doubles at the 2024 US Open.[14][15] Completing in the Girls' singles of the 2024 US Open, she defeated top seed Emerson Jones and third seed Iva Jovic to reach the final, where she defeated Wakana Sanobe of Japan in straight sets.[16][17][18] In doing so, she became the first British player to win the girls' singles final at the US Open since Heather Watson in 2009.[16]
In October, Stojsavljevic finished fourth in the girls' singles at the ITF World Tour Junior Finals in Chengdou, China, which was the best result by a Briton at the event since Katie Swan finished runner-up in 2016.[19]
Senior career
[edit]In April 2024, aged 15 years-old, Stojsavljevic defeated two-time Wimbledon quarter finalist Tamira Paszek 7–6, 6–4 to reach the W35 Nottingham ITF singles final. She went on to win her first ITF singles title by overcoming Julie Belgraver of France 7–6, 6–3 in the final.[20]
In June 2024, she was awarded a wildcard into qualifying for the singles of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships[21] but lost her first round match to Selena Janicijevic.[22]
In October 2024, Stojsavljevic was given a wildcard entry to the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo, losing in the first round to world number 57 Moyuka Uchijima in a deciding set tie-break.[23][24][25]
