Fair use rationale for Image:MorelandLogo.gif

[edit]

Image:MorelandLogo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:49, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Some updates

[edit]

I have gone ahead and updated some missing bits incl current mayor, 2006 population and the state and federal electorates. I also removed the reference to Coburg East as no such suburb exists. Mustard Pot 11:50, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I have moved the external link from the text to a citation, did some minor correction, and also added a reference to The Age news story regarding potential name change. I know there has also been two op-ed pieces in the Age both for and against changing the Council name which I have chosen to ignore from the article. At some stage this section discussing a Name change may need to be moved to its own formal section. This issue is likely to develop and we need to ensure neutral reporting and noteability about any developments.Takver (talk) 07:24, 2 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

As it currently stands, the description of events makes no sense. The article says that the story behind the name was discovered in March 2021, even though it was already public knowledge since 2010. A very small amount of reading between the lines further suggests that it was actually public knowledge since 1839. Whatever was discovered in 2021 was not the basis of the name Moreland. Without knowing specifically what the author is referring to, I can't accurately change the words myself, but I suspect that the events of 2021 constitute a "renewed interest in the back-story", "activism initiated in 2021" or something along those lines; certainly not a "discovery". Removal of "using cash freed up by the 1833 abolition of slavery"

[edit]

I have removed the reference to: "using cash freed up by the 1833 abolition of slavery in the British Empire[citation needed]"

There is no evidence for this. The earlier part of the article states that Farquhar's father and grandfather were employed operating the plantation. He himself trained as a doctor and worked as such in Victoria. In the UCL Legacies web site ([1]) the owner of the plantation is given as James Mitchell from 1799, then his estate, and then his son James H. Mitchell up to 1832. The £11,437 3s 3d compensation for Moreland under the 1833 Act was paid to James Henry Mitchell (Owner-in-fee) ([2]).
