Description
Fiction. Mystery. Suspense. Thriller. HTML:NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER The master of the psychological thriller makes all the right moves in this new novel of spellbinding suspense.Even with all his years of experience, LAPD homicide detective Milo Sturgis knows there are crimes his skill and savvy cannot solve alone. Thats when he calls on brilliant psychologist Alex Delaware to read between the lines, where the darkest motives lurk. And if ever the good doctors insight is needed, show more its at the scene of a murder as baffling as it is brutal.
Theres no spilled blood, no evidence of a struggle, and, thanks to the victims missing face and hands, no immediate means of identification. And no telling why the disfigured corpse of a stranger has appeared in an upscale L.A. familys home. Chet Corvin, his wife, and their two teenage children are certain the John Doe is unknown to them. Despite that, their cooperation seems guarded. And thats more than Milo and Alex can elicit from the Corvins creepy next-door neighbora notorious cartoonist with a warped sense of humor and a seriously antisocial attitude.
As the investigation ensues, it becomes clear that this well-to-do suburban enclave has its share of curious eyes, suspicious minds, and loose lips. And as Milo tightens the screws on potential persons of interestand Alex tries to breach the barriers that guard their deepest secretsa strangling web of corrupted love, cold-blooded greed, and shattered trust is exposed. Though the grass may be greener on these privileged streets, theres enough dirt below the surface to bury a multitude of sins. Including the deadliest.

Well I guess I wouldn't read Kellerman if I didn't enjoy overly complicated mysteries, but this one has a really astonishing amount of convoluted connections, with neighborhood shenanigans of epic proportions. Still, it's always a comfort that both Delaware and Sturgis remain faithfully bulldogging on their cases.

Another fast-paced, exciting Alex Delaware case of an unneighborly neighborhood. Brutalized dead body found in Corvin home.Corvins are a humorously sad, dysfunctional family headed by a blustering, egostistical, misogynistic, insulting husband and father Chet. As usual many wonderful characters good, bad and very bad, making one's head spin trying to keep up.
I really like Milo, Alex, Robin and Blanche but series is getting tired. Their lives remain the same in every mystery. Perhaps Alex and Robin can travel; and need to solve a murder on their own with Milo showing up for the climax.
More depth needed for me to remember more than just the excitement and urgency of each mystery.

Can it really be that this is the 33rd novel featuring consulting psychologist Alex Delaware and unconventional homicide lieutenant Milo Sturgis?
Having read all of them, I always look forward to the next, and this one did not disappoint.
A faceless, handless body is discovered in the den of a family who is seemingly unrelated to the victim. As the investigation ensues, a second murder, a missing wife, family dysfunction, an eccentric neighbor and strange behavior by a teenage girl are all in the mix along with some unexpected revelations.
The Alex Delaware novels tend to be formulaic, but I enjoy them. Alex and Milo chase down leads, generate and discuss different theories, interview persons of interest, enjoy a few good meals. show more Kellerman’s descriptions are particularly picturesque and entertaining. show less

This installment of the Delaware/Sturgis saga was a disappointment. The previous entry in the series ("Heartbreak Hotel") revived my interest in the series after several uninspiring entries. But "Night Moves" goes back to what was bothering me about the series -- a black pessimism, plots that get difficult to follow, and characterization that does not adequately differentiate one-time characters. I suppose I shall continue to read the Kellerman books. I loved the early books in the series, and I still like the dog. But I also suppose I shall continue to wonder why I read them now.
Night Moves by Jonathan Kellerman is an example of a really good puzzle. From no leads, our heroes Dr. Alex Delaware and Milos Sturges solve a many faceted crime from listening to details and tremendous follow up. Excellent story from beginning to end that took place in Los Angeles and many other southern California areas. The book receives five stars in this review. Highly recommended if the reader likes a good murder mystery.
This was a great series right from the very beginning with Book #1 back in 1985. The characters of Police Lieutenant Milo Sturgis and psychiatrist Alex Delaware blended perfectly to create stories that were not only well done but entertaining and left the reader wanting more. Offering #33 brings suspenseful situations with a headless body with the hands also missing along with plenty of different takes as to how the case may go. In a nutshell...it's Kellerman at his best
As usual, solid entry from Jonathan Kellerman featuring my favorite psychologist detective, Alex Delaware and Lt. Milo Sturgis, the overworked LA police lieutenant. When a seriously disfigured dead body is carefully laid out in Chet Corvin's parlor and Chet has no idea who he is, Delaware and Sturgis start the long process of id'ing the victime and figuring out exactly why he was killed and left in Corvin's living room. Some plot twists that are easy to miss if you're not paying attention.
