Eliza and Blake once again cross into each other's orbit. They are both investigating the
murder of one half of a famous theater writing team. As their working relationship begins to flourish within the cutthroat world of Victorian theater, their fledgling friendship also blossoms. Will Eliza finally prove herself invaluable to Blake?
Very good episode with continuing character development . Good mystery elements with plenty of juicy misdirection . Solid episode after the Snooze-fest of a Super Bowl . 8/10.
Eliza faces a conflict of interests when looking into the personal life of Commissioner Fitzroy. Miss Scarlet: Episode 5: The Enchanted Mirror PBS.

"Sweet Sugar" product of the 70's exploitation genre.
Undoubtedly the draw is the beautiful late Phyllis Davis, whom I enjoyed watching on TV appearances on 'The Wild, Wild West', 'Beverly Hillbillies', Love American Style when I was a pre-teen. Phyllis Davis and her bountiful rack star in this formulaic (aren't they all?) Women-In-Prison flick.
Set-up by a crooked politician on a bogus drug charge while working as a prostitute in Latin America, Sugar (Davis) ends up on a female chain gang cutting down sugar cane for a sleazy doctor performing experiments on the inmates on a run-down plantation. The usual WIP cliches prevail, but most of the inmates are lookers, so you won't object to the by-the-books plotline, trust me. Naturally, a breakout is plotted and staged with the usual prevailing outcome precedent, but as far as this tired formula goes, this one isn't a snoozer, let-down or terribly painful to its core audience . It's full of witty one-liners, action, violence, some mild lesbianism, whipping, obligatory topless scenes from all of the female stars, a great break-out finale featuring machine guns and explosions and an incredible theme song I just can't get out of my head. It , even has some cannibalism, voodoo and gore are thrown in for good measure.
A solid example of the tawdry , grade "A" trash cinema being cranked out during the drive-in grindhouse glory days ! 7/10 for genre lovers.

Great Noir Film You've Never Seen , newly resorted ! Woman on the Run (1950) was restored in 2015 after being believed lost. The Film Noir Foundation and UCLA Film & Television Archive worked together to restore the film. Restored largely through the efforts of TCM's Film Noir expert Eddie Muller.
Police bird-dog his wife Eleanor (Ann Sheridan), certain she'll lead them to her husband, whose testimony against the killer could bring down a crime kingpin. But Eleanor and her hubbie are Splitsville-she never wants to see him again. When roguish newspaperman Danny Leggett (Dennis O'Keefe) charms Eleanor into helping him track down the hidden husband-there are unexpected, stunning and poignant results.
This nervy, shot-on-location thriller is a witty and wise look at the travails of romance and marriage, and perhaps the best cinematic depiction ever of mid-20th century San Francisco. This is a gem - hard-boiled, splendidly-acted, written and photographed.8/10.
