Vedo nudo (1969)
Nino Manfredi Recital!
After Alberto Sordi and Ugo Tognazzi, the greatest Italian and not only Italian comic actors, comes Nino Manfredi. Or in other words, all three, together with Vittorio Gassman, form the four aces of classic Italian cinematographic comedy. We have seven sketches here, all with Manfredi, one better than the other. Manfredi plays seven different characters, not just Cacopardo as he is credited right here on IMDb. The best sketch is the 4th, in which Manfredi is a guy who comes to a young lady's house to fix the phone and looks exactly like the serial killer monster whose picture is in the newspapers. Until the end of the episode we won't know if he is the monster or not.
The 2nd best is the one in which Manfredi, almost unrecognizable, cross-eyed, plays a rather stupid, scoundrel peasant who raped a chicken. Dino Risi was an excellent Italian director who delighted me with great films such as "The Treasure of San Gennaro" Original title: Operazione San Gennaro (1966), with the same super talented Manfredi and another super talented guy named Mario Adorf, "Straziami ma di baci saziami" (1968), also with Manfredi and the huge Ugo Tognazzi, "The Widower" Original title: Il vedovo (1959), with the one and only great Alberto Sordi and, especially, "The Monsters" Original title: I mostri (1963), in my opinion, together with "The Party" (1968), with Peter Sellers, and "Some Like It Hot" (1959), the three best comedies of all time.
The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)
Well done, worth watching!
A film whose message is always valid for planet earth, especially now in 2024, considering the explosive situation we find ourselves in, whenever there is the possibility of triggering the 3rd world war, very possibly the last, in case many nuclear bombs are used, by those possessing superpowers. A paradox and a hypocritical gesture is that the film is a US production, the most warlike country on the planet, the possessor of the most atomic warheads. OK, the film was not made by politicians but, considering the political status quo in the USA, they controlled, supervised, approved what we see in the film, especially in 1951, when their cinematographic censorship was fully functioning. About the film itself I can say that it is alert, very good special effects for the year 1951, the actors are all convincing, Michael Rennie is very believable as the alien from another planet, excellent music by Bernard Herrmann, especially at the beginning of the film, intelligent direction. Robert Wise was an exceptional director who delighted my cinematic thirst with superb films such as "The Sound of Music", "West Side Story", "The Andromeda Strain", "Two for the Seesaw", "Somebody Up There Likes Me", "Helen of Troy". Ringo Starr liked "The Day the Earth Stood Still" so much that he used the emblematic image with Klaatu, Gort and the flying saucer as the cover for his album "Goodnight Vienna". I would give it 10 stars but I have to give it 9 because when the power goes out and it is daylight in Washington, it should have been dark in other countries around the world.
Supercolpo da 7 miliardi (1967)
Waste of time!
This is neither "The Sicilian Clan" (1969), "Diamonds Are Forever" (1971), "Snatch" (2000), "Topkapi" (1964), "Diamonds" (1975) with Robert Shaw, nor "Diamonds" (1999) with Kirk Douglas, nor "Blood and Diamonds" Original title: Diamanti sporchi di sangue (1977), "7 uomini d'oro" (1965) or one of many other films with diamond or gold thefts. This is a miserable film with one of the worst actors of all time, Brad Harris, embarrassing in all the films I've seen him in (all those with Tony Kendall from the Commissioner X series), in a stupid story (idea stolen from other films), poorly interpreted by a handful of other embarrassing actors. Nothing special, nothing spectacular, nothing worthy of any interest. As filler, two scenes in which two songs from the '60s fashion are sung. The diamond is stolen, found, and stolen again, the film could have continued like this endlessly.
Le majordome (1965)
A funny movie!
The film somehow resembles another film made by Jean Delannoy, "Action Man" Original title: Le soleil des voyous 1967, in both films there is a well elaborated hold-up. If in "Action Man" the protagonists were Jean Gabin and Robert Stack, in "Le Majordome" the heroes are played by Paul Meurisse and Paul Hubschmid. In fact, the whole film is "a recital" by Paul Meurisse, the talented actor "stealing" the film with his extraordinary performance. The beautiful and talented Geneviève Page shines in the role of Agnès des Vallières alias Lieutenant Planchon from the judicial police. At the end of the film, a surprise appearance, extremely pleasant, but only for a few seconds, the incomparable, unique Bourvil, who is not even credited.
All'ombra di una colt (1965)
A little better than mediocre!
Western town decorations like in "A Fistful of Dollars" and "For a Few Dollars More", very beautiful horses and Nico Fidenco's very beautiful music, in the spirit of Ennio Morricone but different, original. But the story is a bit stupid, two men, good friends, come into conflict because one of them loves the other's daughter and they almost kill themselves for it. Many villains around, as in most spaghetti westerns, hungry for money and fertile land, killing people until they are killed in turn by the two male friends, but who are separated by the daughter conflict. My opinion is that the three authors of the script, Giovanni Grimaldi (as Gianni Grimaldi, who is also the director of the film), Aldo Barni and Aldo Luxardo found inspiration in "A Fistful of Dollars" made a year before, there are too many similar things. The actor José Calvo, Silvanito from "A Fistful of Dollars" is here in "In a Colt's Shadow" the sheriff. Steve (the character played by Stephen Forsyth), has a white horse that is the greatest asset of the whole movie, a beautiful, smart, very well trained horse.
Hold-Up, instantánea de una corrupción (1974)
Not bad!
It is not a masterpiece, the script is not great, it is very predictable and risks becoming very boring for those who do not have patience until the end, because about 70 - 80% of the film are long scenes in which Robert Cunningham, the character played by Frederick Stafford, plays games of chance, poker, roulette at the casino and, with one exception, always loses and drinks a lot of alcohol until he gets drunk and becomes irresponsible. Also many scenes with the same Robert Cunningham, in fact the same scene always, in which he tries to remember where the suitcase with money is and fails. Anyway, Stafford is a very good actor and is believable and convincing in all scenes. Nathalie Delon and Marcel Bozzuffi are just as good, credible and convincing. And Alberto de Mendoza is good in the role of Ashley. The only one who is not credible is Enrico Maria Salerno, an excellent actor in many other films, in which he always played positive heroes. Here, with his face of a good man, he does not convince in the final scene that in fact he was the scoundrel all along who stole the money stolen by the bandits. The first scene in the film, the attack on the van with money, is clearly superior to the rest of the film, it is extremely dynamic, it almost seems real, true, and Bozzuffi demonstrates how expert he was in such roles.
La pacifista - Smetti di piovere (1970)
It can't be more stupid than that!
Antonioni's favorite, Monica Vitti, and Wajda's favorite, Daniel Olbrychski, in the same waste of time, because I cannot call this "The Pacifist" Original title: La pacifista - Smetti di piovere (1970) a film or a cinematographic production. If they agreed to film, I hope they did it for a lot of money, but I doubt it. I hope they filmed without a written script and that this Miklós Jancsó told them along the way what to do. I also doubt this because three names appear as screenwriters, Giovanna Gagliardo (story and screenplay), Guido Leoni (dialogue) and Silvia Silvani (dialogue collaboration). What stupidity of a movie, what huge stupidity, the maximum of idiocy! And this Pierre Clémenti is the most annoying presence on the screen, because I can't call him an actor.
Na srebrnym globie (1988)
Boring to death!
It's hard to write a review for such a production, you don't really have anything to say. Extremely boring and chaotic, a film without any meaning. Long, almost three hours of spinning on the seashore of some crazy characters, who talk, talk, never stopping to add words that convey nothing. I will quote the actor from minute 1.20.21: "I carry my own space in me." I am convinced that Andrzej Zulawski, with this "On the Silver Globe" Original title: Na srebrnym globie 1988, carries his own space in which he stuffed his own crazy obsessions, the same in all his films. I will quote the same actor further: "I am carrying it to an absurd country at an absurd time." It only defines the film, absurd, in an absurd Poland, in an absurd time: the communist period when films were banned and/or censored (in all ex-communist countries being the same, see Romania, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, etc.) One star for the beauty of the locations, another star for the costumes and another star for the make-up, that's all it deserves, unfortunately.
Brogliaccio d'amore (1976)
A mediocre production with two very good actors!
Senta Berger is a beautiful and talented actress, whom I admired in films such as "The Terror of Doctor Mabuse" Original title: Das Testament des Dr. Mabuse (1962), "Lange Beine - lange Finger" (1966), " The Quiller Memorandum" (1966), "The Treasure of San Gennaro" Original title: Operazione San Gennaro (1966), "The Ambushers" (1967), "Istanbul Express" (1968), "If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium" (1969), "Les étrangers" (1969), "Roma bene" (1971), "Secrets of a Nurse" Original title: Bisturi, la white mafia (1973), "Cross of Iron" (1977). I was not in love with her, but I liked her especially in the role of Eva in "Cross of Iron" where she appears naked, the film being the best in which she acted, being the only film I saw in which Germans are presented as positive heroes. In 1978, when I was 20 years old, I would get to know my first girlfriend intimately as an adult man, a woman who looked a lot like Senta Berger.
I saw Enrico Maria Salerno as an actor in "I Knew Her Well" Original title: Io la conoscevo bene (1965), "Il grande colpo dei 7 uomini d'oro" (1966), "L'armata Brancaleone" (1966), "The Queens" Original title: Le fate (1966), the excellent "Candy" (1968), "La violenza: Quinto potere" (1972), "Execution Squad" Original title: La polizia ringzaria (1972), "The Assassination of Trotsky" (1972), "Secrets of a Nurse"
Original title: Bisturi, la mafia bianca (1973), "No, the Case Is Happily Resolved" Original title: No il caso è felicemente risolto (1973), "The Police Serve the Citizens?" Original title: La polizia è al servizio del cittadino? (1973). As a director, I saw his films "The Anonymous Venetian" Original title: Anonimo veneziano (1970) and "Cari Genitori" (1973), both with the beautiful and talented Florinda Bolkan.
Together, Senta Berger and Enrico Maria Salerno also played in "Secrets of a Nurse" Original title: Bisturi, la mafia bianca (1973). This "Brogliaccio d'amore" is not their best film, it is a dialogue film only, boring for many, recommended only to those who love the two actors.
Lisa e il diavolo (1973)
Green vomit, some holy water and Kojak's lollipop!
What a surprise to see the names of Elke Sommer and Sylva Koscina, together, in another film. But my high expectations were shattered, this "The House of Exorcism", also known as "Lisa and the Devil" Original title: Lisa e il diavolo, is not "Deadlier Than the Male", in which both were full of charm, beautiful, attractive, in a captivating eurospy film. This "horror" called "The House of Exorcism" is nothing but a waste of time, everything is bad, the script, the way it is filmed, the direction, the acting, everything. Sylva Koscina is no longer the beauty from 1967 in "Deadlier Than the Male", and her role is embarrassing, as are the other actors, Telly Savalas, Alida Valli, Eduardo Fajardo, Gabriele Tinti and, above all, Olassio Orano, who is the most embarrassing and a total anti-talent. Shame on Telly Savalas, excellent actor in many other films and shame on Alida Valli, talented and beautiful in several films from her youth. There are still two exceptions even in this huge failure, Robert Alda, is convincing and believable as a priest, and Elke Sommer, in the exorcism scenes, when she plays the total madwoman possessed by the devil, is super excellent, incredibly extraordinary, even much better than Linda Blair in the masterpiece "The Exorcist". The stars are for them, 1 star for Robert Alda and 2 stars for Elke Sommer, 3 in total, just for the two of them.
Coartada en disco rojo (1972)
Disappointing!
It's exactly the kind of movie you forget as soon as you've seen it, it's so "memorable". Being a writer and filmmaker myself, I know how difficult it is to produce a valuable script, a masterpiece. This film is far from that, it is just a boring string of dialogues between the same characters, four in number, minus one who is eliminated at the beginning, plus a policeman who appears after the elimination. The policeman is none other than the legendary Fernando Rey, my main reason for wanting to see this movie. Very prolific and brilliant in Luis Buñuel's films, "Viridiana", "Tristana", "The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie"
Original title: Le charme discret de la bourgeoisie, "That Obscure Object of Desire" Original title: Cet obscur objet du désir, plus the excellent "The French Connection", Fernando Rey, having a beautiful wife, Mabel Karr, actress and not very well paid, and having to eat as well as support two children with the actress, he agreed to play in many 14th-rate films, for money, as the case of this "The Two Faces of Fear"
Original title: Coartada en disco rojo, and many others. He is also the best actor in the film, the others trying hard to seem believable and convincing in an embarrassing story.
L'homme sans visage (1975)
Only for fans of Georges Franju!
I wanted to see this "The Man Without a Face"
Original title: L'homme sans visage, because I think all Georges Franju's films are worth seeing, and this is especially due to "Judex", which is, in my opinion, his best film and one of my favorite films of all time. I managed to see only three episodes on YouTube and 2 more fragments (these are on YouTube, there are no more). General impression: interesting, a lot of talking and less suspense, nothing surreal like in the masterpiece "Judex". When it comes to the acting, it is not very convincing and I am referring here to Gayle Hunnicutt who has a 90% mute presence, and Jacques Champreux in the role of L'Homme sans visage has a red mask on his face all the time and nobody can evaluate his acting performance. Clément Harari in the role of Dr. Dutreuil is annoying and exasperating, he has long interminable appearances in which he repeats the same phrases over and over. The most effective and the best actor in the entire cast is the German Gert Fröbe in the role of Police Commissioner Sorbier, a role exactly in the manner of Police Commissioner Lohmann played by him in the films with Dr. Mabuse. The music is very special and avant-garde for the year when the film was made.
Judex (1963)
A very well made film!
This is another film that fascinated my childhood! I then revisited it several times, at different distances in time. Solid story, masterful direction, fascinating sets and costumes, exceptional actors. We have three beauties, one more beautiful than the other and all three very talented actresses: Sylva Koscina, Edith Scob and Francine Bergé. I was in love with all three when I was a child and saw the movie for the first time. Francine Bergé had the sexiest body dressed in that fitted black suit. Sylva Koscina as well. The coolest scene, when they both fight on the roof, ending with Francine Bergé falling into the abyss. Another very cool scene is when the same Francine Bergé undresses and throws herself into the water through the hole in the floor. Even dressed as a nun, Francine Bergé was super sexy. She is the only one still alive and I wish her health and long life. I have also seen her in other films such as "Mr. Klein" with Alain Delon, "Paulina 1880" with the brilliant Michel Bouquet. I also saw Edith Scob in other films, the most notable being "Eyes Without a Face" directed by the same Georges Franju. I have seen the beauty named Sylva Koscina in many movies, the most exciting role being in "Deadlier Than the Male" alongside another sex bomb named Elke Sommer. I saw Channing Pollock before in "Rocambole" made by the incomparable Bernard Borderie. The music is beautiful, signed by Jean-Michel Jarre's father, the great Maurice Jarre.
The Decks Ran Red (1958)
It's worth seeing, it has some suspense!
No, it's not that bad and even a total waste of time as some have written. This is a modest production that keeps the audience on the edge of their seat, without being overly complex or confusing. The film's modest success is largely due to the presence of two colossuses of the art of film, Broderick Crawford, the massive and unrestrained volcano, and James Mason, the most subtle and discreet by definition, both not in their best roles of their cinematic career. I wrote "modest production" because I have seen both actors in numerous other films in which they have complex and deep performances and of course much better films. This "The Decks Ran Red" is a simple action movie, everything takes place on board a ship and it's really predictable. James Mason and Broderick Craword are just dynamic and very active, the subject itself forcing them to be so, both their characters being constrained by time, one to control the ship, the other to defend the integrity of the crew and the ship. Along with the two exceptional actors, the no less talented Stuart Whitman and Dorothy Dandridge appear, admittedly, not in their best roles either. Good modest job by Andrew L. Stone, the film's director and screenwriter.
American Desire (1981)
A success of director Lasse Braun!
I would not consider this movie a porn movie. I would call it a "normal" movie, with sex scenes. And, it is something more than I expected from such a film, in the sense that it is very good, with one exception, the script. As good as it is, it deserves a more elaborate story. Otherwise, everything is almost perfect: the way it is filmed, the smooth movement of the camera, the attention to detail, the exceptional music for such a film, the editing, the direction and, not least, the acting of the actors. The actors and actresses in this film are not like in the millions of porn films by the dozen, here they are very realistic, convincing, natural, credible, they all have charm. Another quality of the film is that it has humor, a very fine humor, especially in the first minutes when the two protagonists are watching a Japanese film. The music and sound from the Japanese film, interspersed with the images from "American Desire" produce a funny effect. Two last comments: the character of The Kinky Call Girl played by Mistress Candice has a unique sense of humor, and The Young Hitchhiking Girl played by Lysa Thatcher alias Lisa Adams, has an extraordinary charm, she is beautiful, funny and sexy to the max.
Le fatiche di Ercole (1958)
Huge pectorals and other tense muscles plus a lot of beards!
Those from animal protection should act somehow, because a poor lion and an innocent bull are being killed! OK, the movie is not really bad, especially if it's watched in the cinema, on a big screen, it's one of those types of movies that should be watched that way. Thus, the muscles of the one who interprets Hercules can be seen much better. Well, this is also evident on a smaller screen, the respective performer being the most massive of the entire cast. A cast in which we have Sylva Koscina, very young and very beautiful, in the role of Iole, the daughter of King Pelias and the one for whom Hercules does everything we see in the film. Then we have a bunch of Italian actors of the dozen, of which only Gianna Maria Canale stands out, in the role of Antea, the queen of the Amazons (her best film being "Il Boom" from 1963, directed by the brilliant Vittorio De Sica, along with the most great comic actor of all time, the incomparable, the one and only Alberto Sordi). By the way, the time spent at the Amazons gives us the most pleasant scenes in the film, the rest, all the fight scenes, including the ones with the lion and the bull, are like big pieces of cheese. About Pietro Francisci, the director of the film, it can only be said that he has made other films of the same genre, plus a modest SF, "Star Pilot" Original title: 2+5: Missione Hydra,
1966. And about the one who tries to convince us that he is actually Hercules, Steve Reeves, we can only say that he is another Arnold Schwarzenegger, something a little bit better than the embarrassing Austrian "actor" before the time of that one. One star for the beauty of Koscina and another for the beauty of Canale.
Fernand cow-boy (1956)
French Western!
A film directed by the same Guy Lefranc who made several delightful films in the spirit of James Bond, before the Bond series. Good French craftsman of the 7th art, specialized in the comedy-policier genre, Lefranc had worked before with Eddie Constantine in "Keep Talking, Baby" (1961) Cause toujours, mon lapin (original title) and Laissez tirer les tireurs 1964. Later he would continue in the same note with Gérard Barray in movies like "Sale temps pour les mouches" and "Beru and these Women" (1968) Beru et ces dames (original title). All those are very good, thanks also to the unique personal charm of Eddie Constantine and Gérard Barray (died this year, 2024, at the age of 92). The same cannot be said about this "Fernand cowboy" made in 1956 with Fernand Raynaud, a washed-up and not at all comical actor. The whole film he makes the same grimace, without causing you even a smile. Guy Lefranc worked hard, it is visible, in a virgin genre for the French cinema, but the effect is zero. Something good though about the movie? Yes, Nadine Tallier as Annie is super sweet. And two actors which I have seen in many other French films, Jess Hahn and Noël Roquevert (the French version of the American Ben Turpin), they play their best roles here. 3 stars for these last three actors.
L'ordre et la sécurité du monde (1978)
It's good!
It is always a great pleasure to see the excellent, charming, great actor Michel Bouquet. Unfortunately, he does not have a main role, he appears very little. But as much as it appears, it's more than effective. The main role is Bruno Cremer, another sacred monster, very natural, as in all the films I've seen him in, here in the skin of a journalist caught between two political forces, pursued, chased. Other good actors are gathered in this film, also smaller but equally excellent roles, Donald Pleasance, Gabriele Ferzetti, Dennis Hopper, Joseph Cotten. The revelation of the film is the life partner of the director Claude D'Anna, the beautiful Marie-France Bonin alias Laure Dechasnel. Co-author of the script and dialogues with Claude D'Anna, Marie-France Bonin in the role of Hélène Lehman creates the most believable and convincing character, that of the woman who falls completely innocent victim, she enters the whole story absolutely by mistake. It's a thriller, a bit static, not at all alert, but worth seeing. The best scene is the final one, in which Hélène is stabbed in the train station and then lies dead on the platform with a blood stain on her chest, which can be seen through a newspaper placed on her body by a passerby.
Forbidden World (1982)
One of the worst movies ever made!
This feature film is very short, it only lasts 77 minutes, but you will count every second, wanting it to end faster, that's how stupid it is. Yes, it is that type of film that is so stupid, that you will not believe how some producers agreed to spend a budget of 1 million dollars (estimated on IMDb) to make such a catastrophe. Visibly inspired by "Star Wars" and "Alien" by the presence of a robot and a monster, the film is a total failure. You can make a ranking of which actor is the most embarrassing, who has the most stupid role, who has the most idiotic lines, and so on. The filmmakers thought that if they showed some nudity, they would save something, the result: they saved nothing.
The Betrayal (2023)
10 stars for encouragement!
Nice surprise to see my two old friends, Daniel Eghan and Marco Mastrocola, together in a movie. Film written and produced by my older friend, Daniel Eghan, who, I note pleasantly, is much more relaxed in front of the camera, much more natural, much more convincing and credible. I only know Marco Mastrocola from a commercial for CocaCola, in which we both played something very, very short and insignificant, together. Unfortunately, in the final product, directed by the greatest director of commercials in the world, Ulf Johansson, with whom I, Rodrig Andrisan, I filmed 2 other commercials, we did not see each other. I find that Marco Mastrocola is also very credible and convincing. I would have liked the film "The Betrayal" to have been longer and, if I had been contacted, I would have had a beneficial solution concerning that...
Now, I will be the first to say some critical aspects: the film does not tell us what exactly the organization does, it lets us imagine (what is not bad) but, in the context in which John (Daniel Eghan) kills Peter ( Marco Mastrocola), it should have made it clear, I think that John kills Peter far too easily, for almost nothing I would say, without having a strong motivation, without knowing what is at stake, what exactly the deal is about. It is understood that the two, John and Peter, know each other very well. Knowing what John is capable of (killing so easily), why would Peter stupidly risk his own life? And, instead of running out through the back door when he receives him (also stupidly) in the house, Peter comes with the glasses of drink, offering himself to the executioner willingly. The film would be really valuable if Peter, after making the mistake of letting John inside, immediately runs away, gets in his car and drives as fast as possible. Which would give John a real motivation, hearing Peter's car starting, to run after him, getting into his own car and following him. A car chase scene like in "Bullitt" would have turned "The Betrayal" into a gem. I saw Daniel Eghan driving his own car several years ago and I know he is an excellent driver. Catching Peter from behind, in a closed street, I would have finished the film with a confrontation like in the most famous thrillers or westerns, with shootings between the two. And the character of The Boss, not convincing as a boss (think Brando in "The Godfather" for example), I would have interpreted him in such a way that the film would have been selected for the Oscar.
The Brother from Another Planet (1984)
Not bad!
Very easy role for Joe Morton, mute role, he didn't have to learn any lines, just nod his head from time to time and point with his thumb as if he's coming from somewhere above in the sky, when he's asked where he's from. The movie is not bad, it's pleasant to watch, although not much happens. I wanted to laugh, I tried but I couldn't. The first film made by John Sayles that I saw. He is also an actor, playing one of the two tall men dressed in black who are looking for Joe Morton's character all over New York. Although I didn't manage to laugh, I admit, there are several funny scenes, someone else could laugh copiously.
From the Earth to the Moon (1958)
Modest free adaptation after the great visionary J.V. !
Joseph Cotten and George Sanders are not bad actors, but they both belong to the category of actors, so many, who are always, in every movie, the same ones, practically playing themselves. And, in this film, they are no exception, the same Joseph Cotten and George Sanders, but with different character names, Victor Barbicane and Stuyvesant Nicholl. The film, an adaptation of Jules Verne, is not bad, but not extraordinary either. Lots of talk, little action. The first half of the film is a bit hard to swallow. Only after the main characters leave the Earth in the rocket to the Moon, the film becomes more interesting.
Hopscotch (1980)
Entertaining!
I simply love Walter Matthau, he is one of the best actors of all time and together with Gian Maria Volontè, Marlon Brando and a few others, a great favorite of mine. But, this movie is not his best movie. His best movie is "Charley Varrick". This "Hopscotch" is a bit boring, nothing much happens until the 53rd minute. Too many repeated scenes in which Matthau types the manuscript for the bomb book on his typewriter, listening to Mozart. Don't get me wrong, I also love Mozart, very much. And I was once very active with a typewriter myself. But after the 53rd minute, things change, the exciting action begins, the suspense and the unexpected begin, the film becomes truly captivating. I will not say more in this regard. Glenda Jackson is delicious in a not very big role, Herbert Lom, likewise, delicious and not a very big role. Despite the lengths of the first hour of the film, it is absolutely worth seeing.
Le ore nude (1964)
Superboring!
The most practical way to write a review is to write it right when you see the movie. At least for someone like me, who used to watch 5-6 movies a day. When you have something to write, you stop the movie and write. Let's see if I can find something good to write before I finish watching this movie. For the time being, after the first quarter of an hour, nothing happened, Riz Ortolani's music is totally inappropriate to what is seen on the screen, and the much adored Rossana Podestà is not at all an extraordinary beauty, with a bowl cut hair, as in other films in which I saw her, she's really ridiculous, ok, it was a fashion in the 60s. But she doesn't excel as an actress either. At the end of the first part, not much happened, except that the character played by Rossana already cheated on her husband played by Philippe Leroy, with the character played by Keir Dullea, an annoying character. Good things: it's interesting to alternate the scenes with Leroy with those with Dullea and the town where Dullea takes Rossana is beautiful, picturesque. The last half hour and the desire for the film to end as soon as possible is getting stronger. Those who are not obsessed with the movie like me, will not resist to see it in whole. The title is very appropriate because almost nothing happens.
Spy Hunt (1950)
Entertaining little movie!
The story is very predictable but everything is well done so 74 minutes pass very quickly. Especially since there are some very good actors, all of them, Märta Torén, Howard Duff, Philip Friend, Robert Douglas, Philip Dorn, Walter Slezak, Otto Waldis, etc. Plus, no joke, there are also two dogs that play the role of followers very well. And, even better, two black panthers (if they really exist...), who actually perfectly play their roles to be hunted by everyone, people, all the characters, and the two dogs. I don't know how they managed to film those scenes with the panthers. And, all in the picturesque setting of the mountains of Switzerland.
