White Chicks (2004)
Why did I say yes?!!?!?
My friends and I planned on going to see a movie on a Saturday night. The movie White Chicks came up and I was adamant on not seeing the movie. It was your stereotypical comedy: bland, tasteless, gross-out humour and stupid jokes that made no sense. I didn't even see the movie and I knew that. Yet everyone insisted on seeing it, so instead of seeing Fahrenheit 9/11, Spiderman 2 or even Anchorman ... we saw this. It lived up to my very low expectations. The people that were laughing the loudest were the three children sitting in front of me during the flatulence scenes. This movie is tired, old and predictable. No wonder the Wayans are being sued; half the movie is ripped from other popular comedies. Just save your money and do not watch this. My friends owe me a coke for not laughing during this snoozefest.
Goosebumps (1995)
What do you expect from a child's show?
When I was in the fourth grade the Goosebumps books became exceptionally popular. Every month when scholastic came out almost every kid would buy the latest book. When the TV show came out, I don't remember the excitement being at quite the same level.
Looking back at the show lately (I can't believe it still comes on), I can see why I wasn't such a huge fan of the show. When you are reading the book, you can imagine the monsters, make them as scary as you want (granted the books were mediocre at best). In the show, it was all displayed in such a banal way that the only people who can get scared are five year olds (and they probably don't get nightmares). What do you expect? Movies that are labeled horror movies don't even scare people anymore, we are beyond that. We know what to expect. Does anyone anticipate a children's show to break new grounds to scare us?
I don't know what I'm trying to conclude, but this is not a quality show and everybody knows that. It is however a children's show, and children's shows tend to be a little shabby. Except Arthur, now that's a good show!
Are You Afraid of the Dark? (1990)
Scariest thing was the credits
The first time I saw this show was when YTV had its first ever "Dark Night" an annual event on Halloween. I saw the Tale of the Phantom Cab. It wasn't anything special, but when YTV started showing the series regularly I got hooked.
A lot of the episodes are dumb, have plot holes or include some terrible acting. However, I continued to watch and discovered there are some great episodes as well. The Tale of the Prom Queen, The Tale of the Lonely Ghost and the Tale of the Dream Girl are some of the best written episodes which feature great characters and even twist endings.
I don't remember ever being scared of any of the episodes. The scariest thing about the show was probably the opening credits, but it was still fun to watch.
Punk'd (2003)
Ha...ahhhh
Basically Punk'd is playing practical jokes on celebrities. Another one of those reality Tv things... Anyways something that I'm disappointed with is when they reveal its a joke. This show could be a lot funnier and better if they let the gag develop. I want to see Justin Timberlake cry cause his possessions area being taken away! But no, they tell him before he or the audience can get into the joke. On top of that you have the annoying commentary/interference of Ashton Kutcher. Sometime s you just want to slap him and tell him to shut up. I want to see the show Ashton! Don't waste your time watching this...
Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi (2001)
Wowie!...and I never say wowie...
Well, I finally saw Spirited Away after hearing so much about it. I was very pleased with the result. First of all the animation is top notch as usual. From start to finish you have to be in awe of the surroundings. The story itself was very pleasant. Some may describe it as simple, but that is what makes it so great, and children's stories tend to be simple don't they. However, this is a movie for everybody because I enjoyed it thoroughly. Great movie!
Flash Forward (1995)
flipping through the channels?
Yep. I was flipping through the channels when I caught a sight of Flash Forward. I watched it for a couple of seconds and bam! I was hooked. I started to watch it everyday and it turned out to be a really cool show. It was funny and entertaining, and I was disappointed to see it canceled. Oh well, some of the actors are really making names for themselves now...
The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo (1996)
Excellent, Worth The HALF Hour
This show is really great,I haven't seen very many mystery shows lately,so there's not much to compete with. Sure there are so predictable cases but there are many interesting ones. Worth the watch. It would be better if it were an hour show, but I can't complain.
