Stephen King needs no introduction, having written himself -- quite literally -- into any horror writer hall of fame. There's something about Stephen King's books that hit differently, as he pens real stories about people put into the most haunting of situations. No one walks away from a King story unscathed. neither the characters nor the readers.

While King is prolific enough, it's good to expand the horizons and discover other similar horror writers. Now, these aren't the clowns who ask ChatGPT to write a story in a Stephen King style for them, then present it to the world as some form of high art because a machine puked it out for them. No, these are the authors who either have King's influence sprinkled over their work or apply similar traits to their writing style, but they still find the space to add their own personal touches and make it authentically them.

Many of Grady Hendrix’s books remix classic horror ideas in order to develop fresh new lore, from vampires (“The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires”), haunted houses (“How to Sell a Haunted House”) and possessions (“My Best Friend’s Exorcism”). Yet his newest novel, the ambitious “Witchcraft for Wayward Girls,” out now via Berkley, is about witches, yes, but is inspired by dark stories from his family’s past.

In the novel, four teenage girls are sent to Wellwood House, a home for unwed mothers, in 1970, with the mandate to give birth, send the children away for adoption and pretend like nothing actually happened. Yet they are able to get back some of their agency once they learn witchcraft via a librarian who offers up a magical book.

It’s officially official: Confirming TVLine’s exclusive scoop from earlier this month, Paramount announced Tuesday that Suits vet Patrick J. Adams and Good Doctor alum Beau Garrett are joining the previously cast Michelle Pfeiffer in the forthcoming Yellowstone sequel series The Madison. Originally titled 2024, the offshoot had been eyed for Paramount Network, but it’s unclear if that is still the plan.

Additionally, My Best Friend’s Exorcism‘s Amiah Miller (pictured, below) and relative newcomer Elle Chapman have also boarded the ensemble as series regulars.

Best-selling horror author Grady Hendrix’s latest novel, How to Sell a Haunted House, was released earlier this year, and an adaptation is already on the way.

Legendary Entertainment won movie rights, per Variety, and tapped Coming Home in the Dark filmmaker James Ashcroft to helm the adaptation.

If that’s not intriguing enough, Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert’s Ghost House Pictures will produce the film with Hendrix (My Best Friend’s Exorcism) and Adam Goldworm’s Aperture Entertainment. Romel Adam and Jose Cañas will oversee for Ghost House.

Hendrix will adapt his own novel for the screen.

Legendary Entertainment has won the movie rights to Grady Hendrix’s runaway bestseller “How to Sell a Haunted House.”

The studio behind “Dune” took the novel over several bids. The book received critical acclaim and an instant following thanks to its dynamic storytelling — pulling off genuine fright with its evil puppet antagonist, and a deeply emotional story about the horrors of family.

New Zealand-based Māori filmmaker James Ashcroft is attached to direct the project. Ashcroft made his mark in the indie genre space with the bleak “Coming Home in the Dark,” which premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival and was later acquired by Netflix. Hendrix will adapt his own novel for the screen.
