‘Alien: Covenant’ star Katherine Waterson has called on director Sir Ridley Scott to finish the sci-fi trilogy.The 44-year-old actress appeared in the second instalment of the ‘Alien’ prequel trilogy in 2017 - which followed on from 2012’s ‘Prometheus’ - as space explorer Daniels opposite Michael Fassbender’s android David, and though she isn't sure if she'd be needed for a third film, she's called on the 86-year-old filmmaker to finish the story for good as she'd happily watch as a fan.Speaking with Inverse, Waterson said: “Keep David coming. [He’s] just this amazing character. I like to think that Daniels made it out of the pod, but I'm not sure. “I just love that world. And Ridley is a dream. He's an incredible person and a great collaborator. I'd personally love to work with him again, but even if I wasn't involved, I'd just love to go to the cinema and watch it.

A new promotional video for the upcoming attraction gives a glimpse of Staunton’s character as the senior British Ministry of Magic bureaucrat for “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic” ride, which is opening at the Universal Epic Universe theme park in Orlando, Fl in 2025. The clip, which you can see below, takes guests through the British Ministry of Magic for Umbridge’s trial.

This year doesn’t have anything quite like that, but it’s still a powerful collection of titles for every viewer.

The Sept. 1 batch includes classics like “Bride of Frankenstein,” “It Came From Outer Space” and “Werewolf of London;” 1980s favorites like “Halloween III: Season of the Witch,” “The Funhouse” and “The Thing;” along with more modern hits like the original “Candyman,” Jordan Peele’s “Us” and several entries in the “Saw” franchise.

The award is the highest recognition given by BAFTA to an individual for their exceptional contribution to the film, games or television industry.

Addressing a press conference after accepting her award, Morton said: “We need more investment in British cinema. I’ve been saying this for years because we can’t just be a service industry for the wonderful Americans. They are amazing and thank God they come here and make movies and put us in as well, thank you. Like in France, we need our own quotas and we need to be making those investments.” Inward investment in the U.K. film and high-end TV industry was $4.22 billion in 2023, with the bulk of it coming from the U.S.

The first book in the Harry Potter series, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" ("Sorcerer's Stone" here in the States) was first published in June of 1997. It was written by author J.K. Rowling, long before she had been driven mad by an infuriating streak of unabashed transphobia that she insists on adhering to. Thanks to years of bigoted screaming, Rowling's legacy has been wholly tainted, and it's hard to read her lighthearted children's fantasy books without thinking of her poisonous worldview. If one checks out the Harry Potter books from the library, however, one can still enjoy the adventures and complex Wizarding World of Harry Potter without giving Rowling another dime.

Before her mind snapped open in public, however, the Harry Potter books — and their subsequent movie adaptations — were widely beloved. The title character was an impoverished 11-year-old who was forced to live in a closet with his abusive aunt and uncle.

Prequels, prequels, prequels. The conventional wisdom? They don’t work.

In modern IP culture, anything that’s remotely successful deserves(?) a follow-up. But sometimes, franchises bring themselves to perfectly logical endpoints, with absolutely no reason to move past the happy or not-so-happy ending we get. So, the solution is not to move forward but instead to move back, looking at the journeys that brought key figures from the original movies to where they were when the beloved original films began. That’s how we got movies like “Harry Potter” spinoff “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” or gritty “Wizard of Oz” riff “The Great and the Powerful,” or all those very convoluted “X-Men” movies. The generally poor quality of these films has led many to write off prequels as a whole, deeming them unnecessary world-building exercises that suck the mystique out of the movies they’re based on.

But...

The “Fantastic Beasts” movie franchise is “parked,” director David Yates said in a new interview with Total Film magazine. The franchise, headlined by Eddie Redmayne, is a prequel to “Harry Potter” that was designed by author J.K. Rowling as a five-film series. Three films have been released — “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” (2016), “The Crimes of Grindelwald” (2018) and “The Secrets of Dumbledore” (2022) — but the lackluster box office returns to the third entry ($407 million worldwide) led many “Harry Potter” fans to question if two more films would become a reality.

“With ‘Beasts,’ it’s all just parked,” Yates said. “We made those three movies, the last one through a pandemic, and it was enormous fun but it was tough. We were actually filming when there wasn’t a vaccine. Thankfully, no one got sick, but we did have the most detailed protocols in place.”
