French production company Chakalaka Films has joined Colombia’s Los Niños Films on the upcoming period drama “In All My Journeys I Am Returning” (“Todos mis viajes son viajes de regreso”), set to participate at Ventana Sur’s Primer Corte industry centerpiece screenings for Latin American fiction films in post-production.

Ahead of the film’s Ventana Sur appearance, its producers have also unveiled key cast members, including Camila Bejarano Wahlgren (“The Sandhamn Murders”), Frederik Lundin (“The Hypnosis”), Denis Lavant (“Holy Motors”), Carlos Mario Echeverry (“2091”).

Set in Colombia in the early 19th century, the film follows Karl and Petronella, a Swedish couple looking to find a fortune in South America. As they traverse through desolate territories after the independence war, they lose their bearings and become lost while on a long river journey. Rather than riches, the two find only a reflection of their own nostalgia and the ghost of otherness.

Viaplay Lands in Germany

Viaplay Content Distribution has launched its Viaplay channel as an add-on subscription to Prime Video via Prime Video Channels in Germany. Prime Video Channel subscribers can access Viaplay’s offering of Scandinavian and European series and films starting today, Oct. 22.

Viaplay’s German offering includes high-quality and impactful Nordic series and films, including award-winning Nordic noir dramas such as “End of Summer,” “Face to Face,” “The Bridge,” “Gåsmamman,” “Furia,” “Trom,” “Stockholm Requiem,” “The Sandhamn Murders,” “Unit One,” “The Team,” “Wallander,” and “Darkness: Those Who Kill.” The platform will also host three films from the Millennium/The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo franchise.

Other titles included at launch are the YA series “Threesome” and “Delete Me”; dramas “Seaside Hotel,” “Love Me,” “Pörni Seasons,” “The Beach Hotel” and “Lyckoviken”; and documentaries “The Prize of Silence,” “Operation Cannabis” and “Wozniacki & Lee.”

Exclusive: The English-language adaptation of Momo, one of the best-loved fantasy books by The Neverending Story writer Michael Ende, has set a buzzy cast, with Alexa Goodall (A Gentleman In Moscow) taking the lead role of the young orphan girl Momo.

The main cast is completed by Araloyin Oshunremi, Kim Bodnia, Claes Bang (The Square), Laura Haddock, Jennifer Amaka Peterson (The Sandhamn Murders), David Schütter (Charlie’s Angels) and Martin Freeman.

Deadline can also reveal an exclusive first look of Goodall in Momo, which is currently filming in Croatia and Slovenia.

The film is produced by prolific German producer Christian Becker and written and directed by bilingual writer-director Christian Ditter (How To Be Single), who both snagged rights to the popular novel a few years ago and an under-the-radar deal.

One of Banijay’s scripted centrepieces at the London TV Screenings, the Swedish crime drama “Fallen” (“Sanningen”), sees the first reunion of star actor Sofia Helin, writer Camilla Ahlgren, and Stockholm-based Filmlance International since the multi-season hit crime show “The Bridge” (2011-2018).

Their collaboration has paid off again as “Fallen” has wooed a first batch of global sellers – including MHz Choice for the U.S. and Canal+’s Polar+ for France – and more than 1.1 million combined viewers watched the first episode on Swedish commercial broadcaster TV4 last Christmas.

“This is 1/10of the Swedish population, which is astonishing these days, considering the series is based on an original idea,” said producer Anna Wallmark of Banijay-owned Filmlance.

Created by Ahlgren, who serves as head-writer, next to co-writers Martin Asphaug and Alex Haridi, the six-part series is, however, a very different type of noir to the cross-border iconic “The Bridge,” Lighter, more emotional.

New York-based Juno Films has acquired all North American distribution rights to “Munch,” the upcoming Rotterdam Film Festival opening night film which is backed by Viaplay, Scandinavia’s leading streamer, and directed by Norway’s Henrik M. Dahlsbakken’s (“The Outlaws”).

“Munch” is produced by The Film Company. The deal was negotiated between Vondah Elizabeth Sheldon on behalf of Juno Films and Vimish Gandesha, VP Viaplay select & content distribution. The feature is expected to premiere in New York, late spring 2023, with a nationwide run to follow.

“Our latest Norwegian feature paints a sensitive portrait of one of history’s most enigmatic artists,” says Filippa Wallestam, Viaplay Group chief content officer. “[Edvard] Munch’s work is famed around the world, but his equally fascinating life is much less well-known.”

Sf Studios, the 104-year old Nordic giant, has crashed into the awards season with Tom Hanks’ “A Man Called Otto,” which it produced with Playtone and fully financed.

Buzzed about as a potentially strong Oscar candidate since its first official screening in L.A. last week, the Sony Pictures film is a remake of “A Man Called Ove,” the Swedish hit also produced by Sf Studios. The 2015 film, adapted from Fredrik Backman’s global bestseller, earned two Oscar nominations.

Sf Studios’ CEO and president Michael Porseryd told Variety that the 50-million film with Hanks underscores the banner’s commitment to theatrical movies and its drive to own intellectual property rights for content it finances.

Season 2 of Peacock’s Dr. Death anthology series has added three more series regulars — Luke Kirby (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Ashley Madekwe (Revenge) and Gustaf Hammarsten (The Sandhamn Murders) — to star alongside the previously announced Édgar Ramírez and Mandy Moore.

Scandinavia’s leading streamer Viaplay has ordered its Danish feature, “Camino,” a heartwarming comedy-drama directed by Birgitte Stærmose (“Industry”) with a cast led by Lars Brygmann and Danica Curcic (“The Chestnut Man”).

“Camino” portrays the complex relationship between a father and daughter who are walking a famous pilgrim route in Spain. The film is produced by Copenhagen’s Motor and will premiere exclusively on Viaplay in 2023.

Penned by Stærmose and Kim Fupz Aakeson (“Becoming Astrid’), the film tells the story of Regitze (Danica Curcic), who is in her early 30s, pregnant and no longer speaks to her father Jan (Lars Brygmann). But when they discover that Regitze’s mother’s dying wish was for them to follow the Camino de Santiago together, the two set out on a 260-kilometer journey of discovery under the burning Spanish sun.

Sf Studios and leading Nordic streamer Viaplay have teamed up on a drama series adapted from “The Åre Murders,” the Swedish crime novels penned by bestselling author Viveca Sten (“The Sandhamn Murders”).

Joakim Eliasson is set to direct the six-part series which is penned by Karin Gidfors (“Snabba Cash”) and Jimmy Lindgren (“Honour”), based on Sten’s first two books. Global sales are being handled by Viaplay Content Distribution.

The first two books were published in 2020 by Bokförlaget Forum, while the third installment recently came out. Sten, who is also executive producing the series, is best-known for having penned “The Sandhamn Murders,” another collection of hit crime novels. “The Sandhamn Murders” was adapted into a TV show and reached nearly 100 million viewers worldwide, according to Sf Studios. Sten’s book have have been published in more than 40 countries and sold over 7.5 million copies to date.

Banijay Rights has signed a package deal with Nordic Entertainment Group (Nent Group) ahead of the launch of its Viaplay streaming service in the U.S. on Dec. 15.

The deal will give Viaplay subscribers in the US access to a dozen of premium scripted titles from Banijay Rights’ hit Nordic drama titles, including Norwegian culture-clash comedy “Countrymen” which won two prizes at Canneseries last month, and “A Class Apart,” a drama series from Banijay Swedish label Jarowskij.

“A Class Appart” is set at Sweden’s top ranked boarding high school which is home to a secret society for the most affluent students, the Zebra Club. “Countrymen” sees four men with dubious plans move to a farm in the rural Norwegian countryside where, more or less against their will, they end up as the founders of Norway’s first halal cheesemaking business.
