The story supposedly takes place in Eastern Berlin (then GDR). However, the uniforms of the border guards are purely fantasy creations and have nothing whatsoever in common with the real GDR military uniforms.

Voice on Disc: Good morning, Jim. Dr. Wolfgang Gerstner's practice in East Berlin is a front for an extensive black market operation, which includes an escape route for those who want to reach the West. Except most of those people never make it. This man is Colonel Joseph Batz, East German security. He's Gerstner's partner. They are responsible for the death or imprisonment of over one hundred men, women, and children. Their profits depend on the continuation of the Berlin Wall, and the political tension it symbolizes. This girl is Ilse Bruck. Her father, a key West German negotiator at the trade talks, beginning in three days' time, was sent this photograph. Gerstner has kidnapped the girl, and has placed her in an artificially-induced coma. He has offered to trade her life for the failure of the negotiations between East and West. Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to find the girl, bring her back across the Wall, and put Dr. Gerstner out of business. Even by "Mission: Impossible" standards, Gerstner is a real jerk!

Like several of the early episodes of this reboot of "Mission: Impossible", this one is an old episode redone in 1988 and I clearly remember the original episode....an excellent one. It's "The Bank", the fourth episode from the second season.

Dr. Gerstner is a very horrible person. He takes money from desperate people and promises them a trip around wall that separates East and West Germany. However, these folks never make it to freedom and they are either killed or imprisoned instead. The team's job is to sneak into East Germany and rescue a kidnapped girl AND put Gerstner permanently out of work.

Quite simply, the original version of this was a classic. This new version, while interesting, just doesn't match up and I look forward to seeing original episodes, not this sort of thing. It's a bit more complicated than it need be but still is worth seeing...though the ending just isn't as memorable (I miss the tunnel scene).
