The great Andre De Toth (HOUSE OF WAX) directed this episode, and it shows. What strikes me about the production is its more like a movie than a tv show, with some strong characterizations. This one comes off as being well rehearsed and not just a one shot deal. Of course, HAWAIIN EYE was a super show, but this episode is worth a look. John Gabriel is very good as a rising singer with a nasty right hook. Beware! Jean Byron is also excellent in a cool, calculating role as columnist Karen Ward, who can make or break careers. Do the math. Byron would soon play DOBIE GILLIS' high school teacher, of course, best remembered as PATTY DUKE'S tv mom in the 1960s. It's also fun to see a young Robert Conrad, who will always be Jim West of THE WILD WILD WEST. Recommended and its nice to see the tv show being revived after many years, thanks to METV.
