Happy Thursday,"Pretty Little Liars" fans. We've got some more pretty interesting and great news for you guys on "The Perfectionists" spin off front. The production team has decided to bring on another female character that will be a recurring role. That means she won't be a season regular, but we'll see her just enough to remember that she even exists. The character we are speaking of will be named Dana. The description for Dana is that she will be the new head of security at Beacon Heights University. She will be determined and perceptive almost to the point of omniscience. After recent events, Dana will keep Alison (Sasha Pieterse), Mona (Janel Parrish) and the Perfectionists on their toes. Wow, her character sounds like she will mean pretty serious business. According the folks over at Deadline.com, the actress who is playing her is someone that most of you guys might actually recognize.

Twelve years ago, HBO put to screen a miniseries that was one part Television event, one part historical drama, which had the considerable backing of executive producers Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks and the hype of being something of a spiritual successor to their highly acclaimed war film Saving Private Ryan. Through ten one hour long episodes, essentially using TV as a medium to explore a vast and epic journey through the Second World War that would simply be impossible to map on the big screen, and with Stephen E Ambrose’s critically acclaimed non-fiction book as source material and a huge cast representing a collective of real world heroes, one of the most ambitious storytelling exercises the small screen has ever mounted was brought to life. The result was much fanfare, both critically and among the masses, a recurring trope that continues to this day, and the fledgling start...

Covert Affairs: Season Two
Stars: Piper Perabo, Christopher Gorham, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Peter Gallagher, Kari Matchett, Anne Dudek, Eion Bailey | Created by Chris Ord, Matt Corman
I’m a huge fan of the USA network, their slew of “Summer shows” are always a great mix of action and comedy – be it Psych, Burn Notice, Suits, White Collar or Covert Affairs, there’s always something interesting about the programmes they commission and many make the transition to the UK via one of the many satellite channels available. Dave had a huge hit with Suits, FX score big with Burn Notice and Really (one of the more obscure channels) managed to create a splash with Covert Affairs. After the huge success of season one, spy series Covert Affairs returns on DVD for a second season.

She'd walk though fire to help her extended family, but Marie Schrader is stressed to the max by the violence surrounding her, Betsy Brandt says of her character on AMC's Emmy-winning "Breaking Bad."
"We've laughed about how there really never could be enough security for Marie," the actress, who happily is much more laid back than her TV alter ego, tells Zap2it. "They've had a sniper watching the house to make sure everyone was safe, but Marie would be asking, 'What about Seal Team 6? Are they available? They should be here!' "
Brandt says she has grown very close to her co-stars while filming the series in New Mexico, so she's trying not to think about how they currently are moving into the home stretch before "Breaking Bad" ends next year. "It's also exciting because I'm having all these meetings about my next project," she adds. "I love working on 'Breaking Bad,...

10 years ago, NBC programs ranked among the most watched on television. In 2001/2002, the peacock had launched successful new series such as Law & Order : Criminal Intent, Crossing Jordan and Scrubs, not knowing that in the following 4 years, they would produce only 5 successful new shows while countless failed, prefiguring the crisis they're into since 2007, a crisis they don't seem to be able to get out of.
In 2002/2003, American Dreams was the only new show that worked, all the other were cancelled : sitcoms In-Laws (15 episodes), Ausa (12 episodes, 4 unaired) and Hidden Hills (18 episodes, 5 unaired), and dramas Kingpin (6 episodes) and Minister Sterling (10 episodes). Ringer, written on spec by Eric Charmelo & Nicole Snyder, centers on a troubled young woman (Gellar) who, while on the run from the mob, hides out by inhabiting the life of her wealthy twin sister. Shepard's gig on Ringer stems from his overall deal at CBS TV Studios, which produces the pilot. This is Wme-repped Shepard's second pilot this season; he also directed CW's Danni Lowinski. Ronald D. Moore’s geek cred runs deep. He co-wrote the final episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. He worked on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He spat in the face of Star Trek: Voyager. Most important for humanity, he partnered with David Eick on the rebooted Battlestar Galactica, about which all you really have to know is that it made the word “Frak” sound cool. For BSG, Moore recorded an essential series of episode commentaries that are about as good as podcasts get — digressive, friendly, and irreverent. (On the commentaries, Moore always makes a point of noting what...

A quick review of tonight's "Covert Affairs" coming up just as soon as you rate this blog for enjoyment on a scale of 1 to 8... Christopher Gorham has been very likable on a lot of TV shows I didn't much like ("Popular," "Out of Practice," "Medical Investigation") or that I quickly lost interest in ("Ugly Betty," "Jake 2.0"), so I've been pleased to see him playing a central role on a show I quite enjoy, even on the superficial level "Covert Affairs" is working for me so far. But Gorham's big shirtless spotlight episode didn't do a whole lot for...

Auggie Anderson — the girl-crazy CIA agent on USA's new spy-games hit Covert Affairs (Tuesdays, 10/9c, USA)— may be blind, but TV fans sure have gotten an eyeful of the actor who plays him. In the past six years, Christopher Gorham has starred in as many series — some successful, some not so much. He was the titular human computer in Jake 2.0, the black sheep in a family of docs in the short-lived sitcom Out of Practice, a young M.D. in Medical Investigation and the secret killer on Harper's Island. But most famously, he romanced one Betty Suarez ...

I’ve long been a Chris Gorham fan, even though I’m not particularly sure why. I mean even back as far as Popular and Odyssey 5, two shows I didn’t actually like, but for some reason liked Chris in (we’re tight like that). I didn’t love Jake 2.0, or Medical Investigation either, and thus the story just keeps getting stranger. I can’t think of another actor that I equally look forward to, who has never been on a show that I particularly enjoyed.
Although, despite critical and ratings difficulties, I did rather enjoy the goofball antics of Harper’s Island. Well, until we found out the real story, and things got downright silly (the pretty obvious secret to the show is that the killer is the only person the show never tried to convince me might be the killer).

On Thursday, Aug. 19, Christopher Gorham got a late birthday present -- he was born Aug. 14 -- when USA Network renewed his freshman spy-caper drama "Covert Affairs."
"I got an email from one of our producers," he tells Zap2it, calling in from the show's Toronto location. "If I'd been on Twitter [as @Chris_Gorham], I'm sure I would have found out first through there, because that's where I usually find out the information on our ratings, before I hear from the producers or the network."
A veteran of several primetime shows -- including "Popular," Odyssey 5," "Jake 2.0," "Medical Investigation," "Out of Practice," "Harper's Island" and "Ugly Betty" -- Gorham has a theory why his latest show was picked up after only having premiered on July 13.

How do you follow up two of the most acclaimed television series in cable history? If you're AMC, whose 'Mad Men' and 'Breaking Bad' have both pushed the boundaries of small screen drama, you veer off into another direction entirely.
'Rubicon,' which has its two-hour premiere on August 1 (a sneak preview followed 'Breaking Bad's' season finale last month and 'Mad Men's' premiere last night), may seem familiar to anyone who's enjoyed '70s-era paranoid conspiracy thrillers à la 'The Parallax View,' or 'The Conversation.' Yet the 13-episode series -- created by Jason Horwitch ('Medical Investigation,' 'The Pentagon Papers') and starring James Badge Dale ('The Pacific,' '24') -- reflects a moody, modern, post 9/11 sensibility and, not incidentally, continues AMC's tradition of slow-building, intricately detailed story-telling.
TV Squad recently visited 'Rubicon's' main New York City set.

Last week we published the first trailer for AMC Television's new conspiracy theory series Rubicon. And while the series won't begin airing until August, AMC has released the entire pilot for you to watch for free online. I have not yet had a chance to watch it, but judging from the trailer it looks to me like AMC might have another hit on their hands, and it appears to be something very different than their other two series. In the world which appears to be going normal, a big conspiracy is brewing underneath everyone's nose. The first look at AMC's new drama thriller, "Rubicon" reveals that clues and messages of conspiracy are embedded in crossword puzzles and newspaper articles.
According to the network, "Rubicon" is a conspiracy thriller set in a NYC-based government intelligence agency, Api, where nothing is what it seems. The series focuses on a beleaguered analyst, Will Travers, who, faced with a shocking tragedy, begins to uncover clues that point to a complex and sinister conspiracy.
By definition, to cross the rubicon is to do something that will have extremely important effects in the future and that you cannot change.
The series is coming from Jason Horwitch, writer of the short-lived "Medical Investigation". James Badge Dale who took part in HBO's miniseries "The Pacific" leads as Travers, supported by Lili Taylor, Miranda Richardson, and Dallas Roberts among others.

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that actor Neal McDonough (Band of Brothers, Desperate Housewives) has walked away from a huge payday over sex scenes he refuses to do on camera. Nikki Finke reports that McDonough was replaced by David James Elliott on ABC's new series "Scoundrels" earlier this week. Dhd claims that Catholic family man McDonough "was sacked" because of his refusal to perform in sex scenes with Virginia Madsen. ABC knew that about McDonough, claims Dhd. McDonough also didn't do love scenes in his previous series, Desperate Housewives, NBC's Boomtown, or Medical Investigation. "Scoundrels" is based on the New Zealand series "Outrageous Fortune." Madsen is cast as the alpha female of a family of criminals...

Craig GlantzNew York, “One Life to Live,” “Abbie Cancelled”A few years ago, during one of the worst heat waves in New York City history, I was performing in an Off-Off-Broadway production of John Patrick Shanley’s “Savage in Limbo” in a small NoHo theater. Like many older venues of its kind, the theater depended on only one beat-up air-conditioning unit, located backstage, to cool the entire performance space. Just before opening night, someone overloaded the electrical outlet that powered the air conditioner and shorted out the circuit, rendering the A/C completely nonfunctional. With no time to fix the problem, the show had to go on. But with no way to cool down the poorly ventilated theater, the temperature on stage rose to 120 degrees or more.I was playing the role of Tony Aronica, a character whose key wardrobe component is a pair of black leather pants. Before the show even began,...

I'm subbing in for Mandi this week. I'll admit upfront: I'm a Bones latecomer. I once thought it was just another procedural, left over from the mid-decade glut of CSI rip-offs (like Crossing Jordan or Medical Investigation). But then my girlfriend got me into the Booth/Brennan supernova-hot chemistry. People compare them to past TV will-they-or-won't-they couples like Moonlighting's David and Maddie, but their flirtatious one-upmanship more resembles the love-as-a-competition backbiting in classic Howard Hawks movies. Yes, half the dialogue on the show is scientific bio-babble; yes, the visual style is somewhere between monochrome noir and Law & Order handheld verité; and yes,...

AMC has given a greenlight to "Rubicon," a new conspiracy thriller series. The hour-long, 12-episode drama marks the third original series order from AMC. The first two, "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad," have done pretty well for themselves. Created by Jason Horwitch ("Medical Investigation"), "Rubicon" focuses on an analyst for a New York City think tank who stumbles upon a clue that opens the door to some sort of vast, unfolding global conspiracy. "Rubicon" stars James Badge Dale ("24") and the supporting cast features Lili Taylor, Dallas Roberts, Jessica Collins, Arliss Howard and Miranda Richardson. "This script is an iconic...

Welcome to your Wednesday television briefing. AMC has handed out a twelve-episode series order to political thriller Rubicon, starring James Badge Dale, Miranda Richardson, Lili Taylor, Dallas Roberts, and Peter Gerety. Series, from Warner Horizon, writer/executive producer Jason Horwitch (Medical Investigation), and director Allen Coulter (Six Feet Under), revolves around an analyst (Dale) of a top-secret government think tank "whose work leads him to uncover a clue that points him toward an unfolding global conspiracy." Series, which will be shot in New York, is expected to launch in 2010. "The pilot is beautifully done and we are very, very excited to move forward with the series," said Joel Stillerman, Svp of programming and production at AMC. "It's a major challenge to find the right balance to take that into a serialized drama format, where you have to pose more questions than are answered but do it in a way that...

AMC is looking to extend its red-hot drama series streak with a political thriller from Jason Horwitch.
The cable channel has handed out a pilot order to the untitled project that revolves around a secret society that pulls the strings on the world political stage and an analyst at a national think tank who discovers that his employers are not who they seem to be.
AMC has been selective in its pilot orders, with the Horwitch project marking its third pickup. Its first two, "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad," went to series and netted a record-breaking 20 Emmy noms for AMC: 16 for "Mad Men," including best drama series, and four for "Breaking Bad."
In the past year, AMC has been actively developing a successor to the period ad agency series "Mad Men" and the chemistry teacher-turned-crystal meth chef drama "Breaking Bad." The untitled Horwitch project was one of several drama prospects on a development slate announced by the cable channel a year ago.
"This is a world you have not seen on television before -- it's not your typical spy thriller," AMC brass said of the project at the time.
AMC has since put more projects in development -- including "Fort Smith," from "24" co-creator Bob Cochran, and a psychological thriller from filmmaker Darren Aronofsky -- and is planning to pick up two pilots by fall.
In addition to writing, Horwitch is executive producing the pilot with Joshua D. Maurer.
The two worked together on another political thriller, the FX telefilm "The Pentagon Papers," which Horwitch wrote and Maurer exec produced.
Production is eyed to start in October.
AMC's flagship series, "Mad Men," is now in its second season, with "Breaking Bad" also renewed for a second cycle. Additionally, AMC is prepping a remake of the 1960s sci-fi series "The Prisoner." The miniseries, AMC's second after the hit "Broken Trail," stars Jim Caviezel and Ian McKellen.
Horwitch, who created and exec produced NBC's "Medical Investigation," is repped by Icm. Maurer is with Endeavor.

TNT grabs 'Cracker' for U.S.
American viewers might get another, perhaps saltier, bite of the '90s Brit hit Cracker thanks to a second attempt at turning the quirky cop show into a series stateside.
Granada America, whose parent in the U.K. was the original producer-distributor of the Robbie Coltrane vehicle, has sold the format rights to TNT and will co-produce the series with the cabler. Robert Duvall and Robert Carliner's Butchers Run will executive produce. Granada retains all rights outside North America.
The original starred the irrepressible Coltrane as Eddie Fitz Fitzgerald, who despite being a drinking, gambling, adulterous chain-smoker, managed to be both a sympathetic character and a savvy sleuth. Jimmy McGovern, a hard-charging British scripter, was the writer of the original; Jason Horwitch, who wrote Medical Investigation for NBC, is penning and co-executive producing the TNT version.
An Americanized Cracker starring Robert Pastorelli aired on ABC in fall 1997, but it lacked the punch of the original and was canceled after one season.
Why try again?
"It was such a success in the U.K. and around the world -- such a great character and also a great procedural," Granada America senior vp Julie Meldal-Johnsen said.

Verdict mixed for 'Trial by Jury'
Law & Order: Trial by Jury, the latest incarnation of NBC's enduring cops-and-courts drama powerhouse, got off to a solid if not spectacular start for NBC with a sneak peek debut on Thursday in ER's 10 p.m. time slot, followed on Friday by its regular Friday 10 p.m. time-slot debut. That hour already has been competitive this season between two new dramas, NBC's Medical Investigation, which has shown signs of life since its fall debut, and CBS' Numbers, a midseason entry that opened strongly in January, though its numbers since have cooled considerably. On Friday, Law & Order: Trial by Jury opened to 14.4 million viewers and a 4.1 rating/12 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. That marked NBC's highest demo numbers in the time slot in 16 months (excluding last summer's Olympics coverage), and it grew from its lead-in, a special 9 p.m. repeat of Law & Order: SVU (11.3 million, 3.2/10). Law & Order: Trial by Jury also generated strong sampling in its Thursday showcase slot (17.3 million, 6.2/17).
