Director Farhad Mann found himself locked out of the editing room by the producers who wanted a film which would appeal more to their target demographic - teenage boys.
Although the film was set in the future, the cast donated their old 80s computers for the set in order to save money in the budget.
The 1993 VHS tape of the widescreen version of the first film had an announcement screen that read "Look out for Lawnmower Man 2: Mindfire" in 1994. This obviously never happened, and the film appeared 2 years later with a different title.
Can be viewed as a stand-alone movie as it seems to ignore the events of the first Lawnmower Man that Jobe had already transferred himself into Virtual Reality.
