Katharine Hepburn’s film career endured an extraordinary six decades. A strong-willed feminist, she was a role model for generations of women and fashion icon who eschewed dresses for stylish wide-legged pants. She is still the only performer to receive four best actress Oscars. She stuck to her guns and never attended the Oscars when was nominated only showing up to give the Thalberg award to a producer with whom she worked with at MGM. Hepburn also made nine films with the great Spencer Tracy, though, their off-screen love affair may not have been exactly what it seemed.

Back in the noughties, Jingle Man delivered the Tony Leung Chu-wai starring “Tokyo Raiders” (2000) which combined a then fashionable Latino enthused soundtrack with a genuine sense of fun. It was then followed up in 2006 with “Seoul Raiders” that added Shu Qi to the mix. Whilst entertaining, the law of diminishing returns was setting in swiftly. So fast forward to 2018 and the belated third in the series came out in “Europe Raiders”. It kind of passed me by back then but ever the optimist thought I’d give it the once over.

Before Twitter free-for-alls, American presidents rarely found spaces in which to let loose — which is one reason why Camp David is so exceptional.
In his new book, Inside Camp David: The Private World of the Presidential Retreat, rear admiral and former camp commander Michael Giorgione reflects on the 75-year history of the retreat, and how former presidential families like the Obamas, Bushes, and Clintons used it to relax.
“To me, Camp David is more a psychological journey than a physical one,” Lady Bird Johnson once said of the camp (which is isolated on top of a mountain in Thurmont, Maryland), according to the book.

Actor who played Shakespearean roles and in Hammer horror movies, as well as such well-known films as Dr Zhivago
Adrienne Corri, who has died aged 85, was an actor of considerable range and versatility whose career ranged from the high – with Shakespearean roles alongside Ralph Richardson and Alec Guinness – to the decidedly low, including appearances in many quota quickies and low-budget horror movies that showcased her striking red-haired beauty. Although seen regularly on big and small screens in the 1950s and 60s, Corri is mainly remembered for her participation in the short but notorious gang rape scene from Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange (1971). Despite complaining to Kubrick about the multitude of takes, Corri retained a friendship with the director for a short while afterwards. One Christmas she gave him a pair of bright red socks, a reference to the scene, in which she is left naked but for such garments.

Uncle Jesse was my first TV crush and be advised, the love was real. One Christmas in the late 80s, I got a cool plastic Smurf camera and spent an entire roll of film* trying to take a picture of Uncle Jesse, a k a John Stamos, on my TV.** (Note: This did not work and I settled with a hand drawing, which I still have in a box somewhere and it is signed "Kristin Katsopolis.") My sister and I watched Full House like it was a religion. We knew all the catchphrases, we laughed every single time Uncle Jesse did his Elvis impression or baby Michelle quipped "You got it, dude!" We even thought John Stamos' mullet, which basically looked like a raccoon landed backwards on his head,...

About 100 mourners gathered during Marston's memorial Saturday in N.Y.C's grand Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine, and those who gave eulogies all remembered how he'd envelop everyone he met in his arms.

When it starts getting close to Christmas, one of my favorite things to do is marathon the Christmas episodes of comedy shows. “The Office,” “Parks and Recreation” “Community,” etc. Most shows do a Christmas special if they are on the air during this time of the year and there is no better way to get into the holiday spirit than laughing your way into the holiday.
Here are my favorite of the comedy Christmas specials:
It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia Christmas Special
Oh So much happens in this episode that it is utterly beautiful. Between learning that Charlie’s mom was a Christmas prostitute and Mac’s presents as a child were stolen through a bizarre ritual of going from house to house as a family and unwrapping gifts, you would think that is the worst of it. But no. Dennis and Dee spend the time trying to get...

Episode 52 of 52: In which we say a fond farewell to Kate.
How, from where we started, did we ever reach this Christmas?
After 52 weeks, 62 years, and over 90 hours of movie-watching, we have arrived at the end of Katharine Hepburn’s career, and likewise the end of A Year With Kate. Never when I started this series did I believe that it would grow as it has. My intention when we began was simply to honor an actress I loved. From that humble beginning, A Year With Kate evolved into a series on celebrity and stardom, a box office tracker, a promoter of hair-brained hair theories and balloon puns, a Hollywood history blog, and above all a forum for everyone from superfans to newcomers to celebrate and debate classic movies.
There is so much to say (including many thank yous), so this last goodbye is being split into two. Next...

In fact, she released One Christmas: Chapter One this week and celebrated by taking a romantic trip to the Bahamas with her hubby, Eddie Cibrian. The country crooner took to Twitter to share with fans how excited she was for her latest album to drop and talked about her much-needed, well-deserved...

The calls have been heard loud and clear, both on stage and off at the Oscars or in the annals of the web and at the box office: the world demands more movies with women, about women, by women and for women.
Every week a movie seems to be failing the Bechdel test, and every week a separate movie ends up walking away with the lion’s share at the box office. From hits like Maleficent, The Fault in Our Stars and Lucy to monster franchises like The Hunger Games, the old notion that teenage boys are the ones driving the demand at the movies is rapidly eroding. The Hollywood Reporter pointed out that Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy opened to a 44 percent female audience on the film’s opening weekend, the highest share for any Marvel movie to date.

Hitting the beach in a black bikini and parka, LeAnn Rimes made a very special announcement to round out the end of the week.
Surrounded by Santa’s elves, the “Written in the Stars” singer clarified explained, "I'm on a beach in a parka to announce my Christmas tour. Why on a beach? It's 89 degrees. Wearing a parka. I must be crazy. But you already know that..."
After she continues to poke fun at her crazy reputation, Rimes sings about the stops on her One Christmas Tour and ending with something "really, really special in New York City,” but keeping the surprise hidden.
In addition to the clip, LeAnn tweeted, "I'm going on a Christmas tour! Next time I'm hiring unicorns and fairies, not elves." Check it out below!

Alex's series looking back at the film careers of actors who've played the Doctor finishes with Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi...

Read the previous part in this series: the film careers of Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant, here.
By 2009, the new version of Doctor Who had become not only an integral part of Saturday night television and a huge Christmas ratings winner but also an international success all over again. David Tennant, who had played the Time Lord since 2005 and was, arguably, more popular than any Doctor since the mighty Tom Baker hung up his scarf in 1981, had announced his resignation from the part he loved in October 2008. Many wondered how the incoming showrunner, Steven Moffat, would follow Tennant and what kind of show would emerge.
Tennant spent much of 2009 on stage in Hamlet and was only able to devote small amounts of time to Doctor Who. Occasional specials...

The former heartthrob talks about surviving the 90s teen TV series and how he's thrown himself into directing his first full-length feature
Come with me on a journey back to the early 90s. To bleached denim and bare midriffs. To when Beverly Hills 90210 was the biggest teen show on Earth and Jason Priestley was its biggest star. His character, Brandon Walsh, was the perfect all-American high-school heartthrob: white T-shirt, big quiff and eyes to launch a raft of terrible ocean-based metaphors. When I was 11, my friend had a lifesize poster of Priestley on her wall. Now here he is: lifesize and sitting with me in a hotel bar in Glasgow, where his directorial feature debut, Cas & Dylan, is screening at the city's film festival.
Priestley is wearing a flat cap, argyle sweater and grizzly beard. "I was very much Team Dylan," I blurt, referring to the bad-boy character played by Priestley's 90210 co-star,...

It's that time of year again when all of our festive favourites hit the TV. One Christmas story that seems to have been committed to the big screen in every possible way is Charles Dickens's classic tale A Christmas Carol, the tale of lonely miser Ebenezer Scrooge and the trio of visiting ghosts who help him to discover the true meaning of Christmas.
Whether in black and white or full technicolour, with puppets or in 3D, it seems every generation has its own definitive version of A Christmas Carol. Here are five of our favourites...
Scrooge (1951)
An early film adaptation of the festive tale, but it remains one of the most beloved. Scrooge stars Alastair Sim in the lead role, who would eventually go on to reprise the role 20 years later in a cartoon version of A Christmas Carol. The black and white film stays pretty close to the original story,...

The 73-year-old will return to the role of Granville for Still Open All Hours, a revival of the classic sitcom which first aired on BBC Two between 1973 and 1985.
In the Christmas special, viewers will meet an older Granville, who has inherited the grocer's shop from his late Uncle Arkwright, originally played by Ronnie Barker.
He now runs the business with his son Leroy (James Baxter), a cheerful and good-looking lad who attracts many female admirers.
Still Open All Hours - which will also star Lynda Barron and Stephanie Cole - has been written by original series creator Roy Clarke.

Given that for most people reading this website, Christmas brings with it the coldest and most treacherous of outdoor experiences, it’s little wonder that cinema plays such a big part of the holiday season. Families gathering in their warmly lit living rooms next to the tree and watching classic films of heartwarming sentiment or epic scale is as much a part of common tradition as gift opening or alcohol fuelled social faux pas. While for the Us the classic is It’s a Wonderful Life and over here in the rocky United Kingdom it’s The Great Escape, we all have our quintessential Xmas movie looping every year at the same time ad nauseam. ‘Tis the season for such folly, after all.

The BBC One Christmas animation is quickly becoming something of a festive tradition, and the works of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler are rich pickings for Magic Light Pictures who have delivered us the well known children’s stories The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child.
This December the 25th we welcome another of their tales into our home with the story of a Witch, and her cat, and her very tall hat and the various creatures she meets who seek a handy seat on her broomstick. It’s charming, more than a little silly and with the voices of Gillian Anderson, Rob Brydon, Sally Hawkins, Timothy Spall and David Walliams joining Simon Pegg as the narrator we’re in for a treat.
We have a handful of exclusive images from the animation below and don’t forget that Room On The Broom is on BBC1 at 4.35Pm, Christmas Day.

Call the Midwife BBC One Christmas 2012
B Van Heusen
The BBC are banking on a mixture of the old and the new as executives attempt to put the Saville saga behind them and win the Christmas 2012 ratings war with ITV. Matt Smith and his new sidekick (Jenna-Louise Coleman) will be doing battle with Richard E Grant in Doctor Who and The Snowmen. However, TV’s favorite time traveler may be reduced to the role of a warm up act as Christmas 2012′s most watched show may be the special festive episode of Call the Midwife. If you’re a fan of Chummy you can see even more of the colorful comic behind the eccentric nun as she’s set to star in a special Christmas episode of Miranda.

Ted
Stars: Mark Wahlberg, Seth McFarlane, Mila Kunis, Joel McHale, Giovanni Ribisi, Patrick Warburton | Written and Directed by Seth McFarlane
When I first read about Ted some months back, probably in one of those ‘preview of the year’ features that crop up in the film magazines around December time, I thought it sounded like a pretty amusing concept. One Christmas a lonely young boy gets a teddy bear and wishes it to come to life. His wish comes true. Twenty-five years later, the young boy has grown up into Mark Wahlberg and the teddy bear is still very much alive, is voiced by writer-director Seth McFarlane and has developed a penchant for booze, bongs and bimbos. Their continued cohabitation threatens Wahlberg’s relationship with Mila Kunis, meaning the pair has to readdress their relationship.

Dear Dracula, the graphic novel from Image Comics/Shadowline (written by Joshua Williams, with art by Vicente Navarrete), has been adapted to TV as an animated movie and will air on October 16th at 7pm on the Cartoon Network.

Whoa! Apparently it's not just Jon Gosselin who thinks Kate Gosselin is a handful! Her Dancing with the Stars pro, Tony Dovolani, is still reeling from the experience Two Years later! During an interview with Anderson Cooper, Tony joked around about his time with Kate on the dance floor, saying, "Wait, wait, wait. Anderson did you just call it dance? We didn't dance!" Anderson then asked him if he had to take "a long vacation" after he and Kate were eliminated. "There was a a lot of therapy involved," Tony said, smiling. Judging from what we've seen on her reality show, interviews and more, we don't think he was just kidding about Kate either, do you? She was that big of a nightmare!

Michael Ian Black is a founding member of two -- Two! -- cult comedy troupes, The State and Stella. He is also an author of books for both children and adults, and most recently, in commercials, "the Expedia Guy." Last year, he completed a national stand-up comedy tour. He is a true show biz dilettante, and he's really good at all of it.
His latest book, You're Not Doing It Right: Tales of Marriage, Sex, Death, and Other Humiliations, takes on darker, more real material. Michael writes candidly about his childhood: being raised by his gay mom and her partner, sharing a room with his ill sister, and a very touching retelling of his father's death and funeral. He has the unmitigated gall to assert that, often, marriage sucks and kids are assholes. He's also not afraid to expose, hilariously, that there are no career guarantees in show biz. You're...

Documentary maker with a human touch
Witold Starecki, who has died of cancer aged 64, made documentaries that glowed with humour and humanity. He started his film-making career in Poland after graduating from the National Film School in Lodz. In 1984, he was encouraged to move to Britain by Roger Mills, then editor of the BBC's documentary series 40 Minutes. Witold had a film he wanted to shoot about the treatment of mental patients in Poland, but even he, with all his subtle skills, had been unable to slide it past the censors of state television. Mills invited him to make it under the BBC's aegis.
Broadcast later that year, Asylum was a triumph: a painfully beautiful portrait of patients from a mental hospital near the Soviet border. Their only break from the bleakness of the asylum was to work for local peasants until they were too ill or too old to continue.
